Riding Wear for the Clotheshorse

I've worn jodphurs and riding boots for well over a year now...still get stared at sometimes in L.A. I always get compliments on my boots and I only wear them with the pinstripe jodphurs and a military jacket or short sleeved muscle tee, depending on weather.

Riding High: Nike's Covetable Riding Boots

April 9th, 2008 - Oregon

You'll want to expand your viewing schedule to include the equestrian events at this summer's Beijing Olympics—but not so much for the sport as for the high-tech riding boots that Nike will debut.

At the Nike Innovation Summit at the company's Oregon headquarters this week, several cutting-edge products are being previewed. Thanks to their new performance innovation technology, you'll soon be familiar with terms like "Flywire," a support system based on threading, and "Lunar Foam," a super-lightweight padding. However, from a pure fashion hybrid perspective, we forecast that the new riding boot, the Ippeas, will have a unique crossover appeal.

Similar to how Nike's golf gear changed the landscape of footwear on the green, the Ippeas is set to have a major impact on equestrian styling. A big departure from the typical stiff, knee-high boots that require a pull-and-drag strategy to get on, the Ippeas is constructed out of leather and rubber (with metal spurs) and has a revolutionary diagonal zipper for easy booting. But it also looks like the kind of stylish and comfortable boot you might wear to the office or to trudge through winter snow. We envision the Ippeas being donned by riders and urban style warriors alike.

I'd feel like I was taking part in costume, not fashion. Unfortunately I think the Nazis wrecked the whole tall boots for men thing imho.
to be honest i admit i love the Nazi uniforms :ninja:

Riding boots by NIKE? Just to let you know, I've got myself a pair of boots months ago. It's these Drexlite shoes from one cheap shoe store. The reason why I'm bringing this up is because I'm imagining for my own hommes to have this kind of "clotheshorse" style. People usually make the presumption that us Texans are all into the cowboy style and do ranch work and stuff. Well, that's false. Thinking about this style more and imagining guys getting into this, I'd actually question IF this kind of style can be popular among guys as this can be very versatile for femmes.

I usually wear my ankle boots about as casually as sneakers. No need to tie them because they are side-zip boots. If I were to try this style out (I'm not into equestrian or ranch work stuff personally), I'd probably go with some of those low-heel or motorcycle-like boots. Then, I'd go with any pair of jeans (I mostly wear blue jeans and have a black pair), find a light button-down shirt, and maybe get a straw hat to combat the Texas heat. I can't do the whole equestrian thing having never rode a horse since 1994 (I was in the 5th Grade and didn't know how to stop a horse).

So let me just put what guis mentioned in Post #17 and put it into practice. COULD this and WOULD this style work for men as this look is for women?

In France we call that shoes " cavalieres " and it was trendy 2 years ago but it may come back...

john m. well the style -originates- in menswear doesn't it ...

i could see a guy with a certain "face" who could wear this
i don't know why i wrote what i did in post 17 "p because i have already seen guys dressed like this.. in bigger cities, but not where i live ^_^ it's just this "fancy" "dandy" look

the nike riding boots are only being offered for the Olympic team members. they are really cool boots...the whole all in one aspect is ground breaking design and brilliant, functionality wise. I could see myself wearing these to work, no problem.

I LOVE THISSSSS. horse-riding pants are my favorite.

I wanted to bring this thread back to kind of discuss one particular item that's crossed my mind in thinking of riding chic...

* http://www.rods.com/dg/225,5_Western-Skirts-and-Dresses.html (all except the dress and the suede skirt)

Some would even say that these riding skirts are probably what the recently-revived gaucho pants should have been. Riding skirts are proper skirts tailored for riding horses. Made of materials like moleskin and suede make these comfortable and warm, if also a little heavy. From a fashion perspective, touches like lots of button details on some riding skirts make them very lovely to me. If riding-style fashion really catches on, do you think it will even come down to riding skirts like the ones mentioned in this post? Would you wear one (or do you) of these proper riding skirts?

love everything posted here #1 !!!!!!!!!
I bought some riding pants from Ralph Lauren - very nice and some from Prada sport - too low rise even to sit in them...

I received a gift of Ariat Maestros. Since they are over five hundred dollars, I felt bad only wearing them once and a while.

please do not quote images. thank you.

So I started wearing them in everyday outfits. I thought people would stare at me, but I get complements all the time. It’s about how you carry yourself.

where did you buy them
I love the one in black and brown posted by softgrey 1

BTW I tryed one fab pair by RL but couldn't push my feet in it as they did't have zippers..
here are my riding pants by RL

There's just something about riding boots in general that's so insanely elegant and very sharp. I will find a great pair someday.

Ooh I like those Spike. Like I mentioned though, I dont know if with how often I ride I would actually wear Tom Ford or Hermes or other designer boots while riding my horse because they'd wear away within a year.

Anyone else feel the same?

WHile I'm okay with riding boots, some say that they aren't very comfortable to wear for day-to-day shoes. Any of you find comfort in riding boots?

^^They definitely take a while to break in, and during the first couple months of wearing them you'll need help getting them off. I cant tell you how many times I've laid on the floor of the barn or stable or somewhere else and held onto something while someone pulled my boots off.

They begin to be comfortable after a few months.

See for me it's purely fashion, I'm not a rider (just happen to love the "uniform").

But I'd feel the exact same way if I did ride. It just seems ridiculous (unless you're absurdly well off) to spend so much on something that's bound to get a lot of wear and tear.
