His hair was so beautiful...
Love those photos... hadn't seen a few of them. TY for posting Christie!

I had all of the My Own Private Idaho set pictures, but the others are new to me... and I love them! Thanks for the fantastic finds.

There is a fantastic boxed set of My Own Private Idaho, with a mini booklet with photographs, a friend had it, anyone have this?

^ Yeah, I have that one. It really is a lovely package, with the booklet full of photos, essays, and both a Keanu and River interview as well as the interview of Gus Van Sant by River. Then the second disc has deleted scenes and a making of featurette, among other things.... God, I sound like a saleswoman. They really did a beautiful job on it though.

I'm glad the pictures were appreciated! You're welcome -- I enjoy being able to share stuff with other River fans.

Much of what is in the Idaho booklet is now online, including the interviews :)

Yeah, it's very sad that River never got a chance to launch into the music industry. I think that's really what he wanted more than anything. You can still find some of his music if you really look for it though.
It's funny, I remember reading an interview with Joaquin in which he lamented that the night River died he didn't even wanna go out... he just wanted to stay at home and play his guitar. That broke my heart to read, and I felt so bad for Joaquin, who claimed he talked River into going to The Viper Room so that he could meet The Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Really sad...

Some of my favorite caps from My Own Private Idaho:

P.S: The last one I've included just because I adore River's hands so much.

If anyone has a scene they wanted capped I am happy to do it. You can request from any of River's films because I have them all. :)

^ P.S: Saving those files, you might notice my little habit of naming my pictures in accordance to what's playing on my media player :p That day it was Nirvana and Mudhoney!

Also, sorry that I double posted one of the images! xx As I said, if you want any caps guys just let me know. I've got a blue-ray player so hopefully the pictures should be optimum quality :)

I love the scan where his eyes are closed. I think there is something peaceful about it.

Is it really that rare/hard to find the My Own Private Idaho with the booklet? You're making my day with the screencaps, Stamoholic, and I'm sure in a little time, I'd love to see some screencaps of when he and Keanu are in bed together and around the campfire...I havent watched the film in a while, discussing it brings my love for it back...maybe I should pop it in later.

That is really sad about Joaquin suggesting River go to the Viper Room to meet RHCP.

Anyhow, thank you, thank you, thank you, Stam!!

Here's the quote:

" I've heard stuff about how the night River died he was partying and all that — it's so untrue. That night we were together. He was just playing guitar. He wanted to show me a new song. And... I wanted to go out to see Flea play, because I'd never seen him play before. River wanted to go home, just hang out, play guitar. I was the one who wanted to go out and he was just making sure to take care of me." -- Joaquin.

I will post more screencaps in a few days. A few more quotes by people about River!:

" River was a remarkable artist and a rare human being. I miss him every day." -- Keanu Reeves

" A very pure person got into a situation that was bigger than him." -- William Richert

" A week before [he died], we were in Gallup, New Mexico, on the road. I had a lot of cases in my room, film equipment. I came out into the hall and said, "Can someone help me with my gear?" Somebody said, "Yeah." I didn't see who it was-I didn't have my glasses on. I went back into my room, brushed my teeth. There's a knock on the door, and it's River. I go, "River, what are you doing here?"He said, "I came to help you." I said, "I didn't mean you!" He said, "Whycan't I help ya?" -- Ed Lachman

" There's a River born to be a giver
Keep you warm, wont let you shiver
His heart is never gonna wither..." -- ' Give it Away' by RHCP

" One time we were up in the mountains with this Polynesian girl, and the clouds came right up to the top of the mountain. River grabbed each of our arms and said, “We're going to run and jump into these clouds, and our whole past lives will dissolve, and everything will be new from then on. Hold on." And we did that. And I'm thinking, Here I am, at my age, jumping off this cliff with this kid. But it was incredible, and we landed on this soft iceberg kind of ground covering. But we jumped through the clouds, literally." -- William Richert.

" River and I would talk about getting old, being in our 50s together, how it'd probably take us that long to get to work together. There was something gorgeous about us being old together. River will be missed — period. I mean now, more than ever I wish I could talk to him." -- Joaquin Phoenix

" He's become a metaphor for a fallen angel, a messiah. He wasn't. He was just a boy; a very good-hearted boy who was very ****ed-up and had no idea how to implement his good intentions. I don't want to be comforted by his death. I think it's right that I'm angry about it, angry at the people who helped him stay sick, and angry at River." -- Martha P.

" This song is dedicated to Frank Zappa and River Phoenix... and you, dumb ***, who just threw water on me" -- Kurt Cobain, at Seattle Center Arena, Seattle, Washington ( I believe the song he played for River was ' Jesus Don't Want Me For a Sunbeam'. Personally, I think River could be a sunbeam now...)

 Kurt's ironic sense of humor. May he also RIP. I love 'Jesus Don't Want Me For A Sunbeam'.

Thank you for all the quotes, Stamoholic, and I look forward to your caps. :flower:

Thanks for all the screencaps, Stamoholic. And that Joaquin quote is so sad... the Kurt one is really funny, though. I knew he dedicated that song to River, but I hadn't seen the full quote.

Is it really that rare/hard to find the My Own Private Idaho with the booklet?
I've seen it in major bookstores like Borders and Barnes and Noble, and plenty of smaller places that sell DVDs, so I don't think it should be hard to find. It's part of the Criterion Collection, and many places stock at least some of their titles.

^ The Kurt quote is really funny... out of context. He dedicated it to River, etc. because he was dedicating it to " everyone who dies young"... and a few months later, Kurt took his own life at 27.

I am going to cap the campfire scene and the bed scene tomorrow! Also, I really recommend everyone has a good look at the Criterion Collection that Christie mentioned. It's fantastic! :)

And a new favourite:

Thanks Stamoholic. I'd seen the pics before, but a few of them (like little kid Riv with the big smile) are in much higher quality. I really like pictures of River rocking out too....
