Rooney Mara Will Cover US Vogue November
We’ve heard it from two very reliable little birdies that Rooney Mara will cover Vogue‘s November issue. Her cover is obviously timed to her breakout star-making turn as Lisbeth Salander in the hotly anticipated US version of Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, out December 21. But if you were looking for more evidence that Mara was in with Vogue, look no further than the front row at Rodarte‘s spring show, where Mara, with her black close cropped Lisbeth-hair, sat next to Anna Wintour.
We’re excited about this cover because Rooney Mara is an exciting fresh face. She completely won us over as Erica Albright in The Social Network, when she told Jesse Eisenberg’s Mark Zuckerberg “You are going to go through life thinking that girls don’t like you because you’re a nerd. And I want you to know from the bottom of my heart that that won’t be true. It’ll be because you’re an *******.” So satisfying! (I could watch that scene over and over.) She also starred in Diane von Furstenberg’s daughter’s new film Tanner Hall, so you know, there’s another tenuous fashion connection.
Our Nev Pierce interviewed all those involved and visited the set to bring you all the latest on the film, but here’s just a taster of what Fincher had to say about Salander herself.
“There were discussions early on where people were like, ‘She’s a superhero!’ And you go, ‘No, she’s not. Superheroes live in a world of good and evil, and she’s far more complex than a superhero. She’s been compromised. She’s been subjugated. She’s been marginalised. She’s been swept into the gutter and she’s had a part in it. She dresses like trash because she’s someone who has been betraued and hurt so badly, by forces beyond her control, that she’s just decided to be refuse. She can sit anywhere she wants on the bus, because nobody wants to deal with her.”
Well it was also too soon for them to do remake of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo films, so at least she's consistent at something.
