Rooney Mara

If she changed her stylist, her style would not change at all. She wears black in candids and has a certain type of style. She seems to know she loves and to me, that's what's important. Some of of the most iconic and stylish women in ever are or were repetitive with their style. I feel like people are waiting around, expecting her to wear a brightly coloured dress, and and if you're waiting for that you should probably unsubscribe!

Carey Mulligan is debatable because she clearly doesn't care about fashion like Mara does (she says she doesn't, but she clearly does) and Mulligan even said that she wears whatever her stylist tells her to.

That being said, I wasn't feeling this look until I saw the HQs. I also just realised that I prefer the side parting her.

She acquired this style when she acquired the stylist. If you look back at pictures and candids of her pre-GWTDT, you'll find her style is quite noticeably different. This edgy, goth look she's been flaunting lately is new. Now, of course, that's not to say that people can't change or discover they like a certain style and stick with that, but there's a HUGE difference between having style and being repetitive. They're not the same thing to me. Style--at least to me--when done right refers to that distinct something about your fashion choices. There is nothing distinct about wearing black all the time. French women/actresses have been doing it way longer than Rooney and in my opinion way better. And it's also not like she's never worn brightly colored dresses before so I don't know why that's such an unlikely prospect. She's been seen in green, red, pink, even nude dresses (fairly recently actually), and it's done nothing to diminish the "edgy" look she's been affecting.

But honestly, it's not even the continuous black that's the problem. You can still wear a lot of black and make it fresh each time. That's why French stars like Audrey Tautou, Clemence Poesy, and Astrid Berges-Frisbey don't get the same complaints as Rooney. For me, it's the fact that she has not just limited herself to black, but to the same silhouette, the same make-up, the same hairstyle, even the same shoes for goodness sake. And there's nothing inherently wrong with that, it's just dull for some people. That's not to say that she MUST change or she owes anybody anything. If that's what she likes, I mean, what can we do about it? But this is a forum and not everybody is going to like everything she wears. I don't know why people should have to unsubscribe just because they don't find her current fashion state exciting. I mean, that's a bit...bold. Some people follow her because they like her as an actress. Some people do like her style in general and just find it boring and repetitive, at the moment.

Mara has said many times that her style has changed because of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and that she really appreciates the whole gothic aesthetic more. She was in her 20s when she filmed the movie and I think your 20s is all about finding your style. Maybe she thought to herself, "Hey, I really like black!" after making the movie. Anne Hathaway said just that after filming The Dark Knight Rises. I have noticed that she's worn a lot of black or neutral colours just like Rooney Mara. Point is, I think if you're playing a character, it's very easy to see why someone can be influenced by the character they are playing. Yeah, she has worn some colourful dresses, but not lately. I think that is telling that black is her favourite colour. Or maybe it's just purely coincidental that she chooses things that happen to be black.

I follow all of those French actresses you listed and I'm almost sure they wear more colour than black... I also really disagree that she wears the same silhouettes. Look at the three black ensembles she had worn in Cannes. The Giambattista Valli & Yohji Yamamoto ensemble, the Christian Dior and the Vera Wang...all very uniquely constructed and different looks. All black. What about the Balenciaga and Valentino dresses looks in Berlin? Or the Alexander McQueen dress she wore to the Side Effects premiere?

Sorry if I came across as rude. Of course you are entitled to your opinion. The forum would be a terribly boring place without people like you. I guess we can just agree to disagree. :flower:

FYI, I was facetious with the subscribing comment.

:flower: Well actually, I liked most of the outfits you mentioned, especially the Balenciaga and the Valentino she wore for the Side Effects premiere. I also liked her look at the Gatsby after party in Cannes and the pinkish nude gown she wore to the Calvin Klein dinner. That was actually the nude dress I was referring to.

But we may just have to agree to disagree on a larger scale, though. Audrey Tautou and Clemence Poesy I follow more than Berges-Frisbey, but they all, at least to me, seem to have a similar affinity for majority black or majority white outfits/dresses like Rooney. And like I said, I suspect that she definitely was one of those people who didn't know what her style was and GWTDT helped her find that look. I'm not faulting her for that at all. I do wish she would take some risks, but it's her style and she's yet to have a miss. I've just been finding her really repetitive lately, with the long, high rise dresses, the shoes, make-up, etc. But like I said, that's just me.

P. S. I also hope I didn't come off as rude either; I read your post somewhat quickly and kind of had a knee-jerk reaction.

She looks great!

I just LOVE the latest dress, the side part in her hair and the deep pink lips.

I actually really love this. She's one of the few who can get away with wearing the same colors all the time, because she always looks so great.

Although, it would be awesome to see her wear a bright color like yellow or purple one day.

The CK dress really looks like it was made for her. Also I'm always stunned at how perfect her hair and makeup is. She's so precious

Some cute pics of her at the MET, that I believe were never posted: all pictures are from bfanyc.com

Yeah especially since I recall reading she's a vegan. It always amazes me that people who take that much care with the food they put in their bodies would smoke.
