Sabato De Sarno - Designer

Weirdly, I would have expected all of this from some catty group of women. It has been mostly males attacking me. I love how intimidated they still are by female voices. You go, boys! I'll be on Instagram simping for Mulier's Alaïa and I do not mind doing it all alone.
Wait... you tried to call me out me for using "hysterical" in 2023, but you're calling women "catty." Makes sense...

what is up with the wild defensiveness over mediocre one-trick pony designers? Having a post-Christmas tantrum over TFS members calling them what they are i.e. underwhelming and nowhere near the creative powers of the McQueen/Galliano/Theyskens generation is not the way to deal with your issues from working in fashion.

My opinion from early in his appointment stands - Sabato is just a placeholder and he's designing like it so far. Alessandro pulled off a major rebrand from Gucci 9 years ago (even if I can't be the only one who looks at it and sees Meadham Kirchhoff all over their mood boards) but now they want to separate themselves from that, no idea how they're going to do it without a strong creative direction though.

I can’t believe that ANCORA caused all that commotion, much like I can’t believe that Peter Do is part of anyone barometer in terms of talent in fashion.

For any future person wondering why there are so much discussions around « big brands » fashion lovers are supposed to hate anyway…It’s simply because those big brands were once the leading brands in fashion. When those brands were pushing fashion forward, it sent a signal to the industry. So having a Gucci, a Chanel, a Dior, a Balenciaga, a Givenchy in bad shape is a bad news for all the industry.

And it’s not because you love Dior over Iris Van Harpen that your opinion is not valid…We might look at you with a side eye but it’s still valid.

I myself have never been into Chalayan. And god knows how fashion people loved to throw his name around as if his he was the golden child.

ANCORA better deliver a good collection because I won’t allow myself to continue this in 2024 lol.

To me this looks very Valentinoesque. He needs to get confident and out of the comfort zone!

I have been lurking this forum for months and honestly, I do not feel like commenting here much mostly because of the type of person who normally posts something in here: a bunch of super bitter extremely conservative, upper middle class, middle-aged women (I am middle-aged too, btw) who are incredibly privileged complaining about 'wokeness' and anything that doesn't remind them of their old 'glory' days when they were younger.

I am 44 and I think fashion has evolved a lot. If you really want to look for amazing fashion, you will find it. But most people here stick to Gucci, Dior, Chanel and the same old same old who have been doing the same old same old since forever. I honestly feel people of this sort do not really love fashion, they love status symbols. Gucci is and will always be Fugly fashion with fugly logos to flaunt in others' people's faces. Sorry, that's who I am.

I've been happily buying Christopher Esber, Magda Butrym, Peter Do, Khaite and plan to buy me some Alaia next season, because I think Pieter Mulier has given the house what it needed. If you don't appreciate Christopher Esber's artisanry and craftsmanship, you don't simply like fashion and all the beautiful things it is all about. Now, if you excuse me, I have better things to do than joining a place where people are dedicated to destroy other human beings.
LOL are you kidding? Those are the exact reasons I love this place so much. Smart people who aren't sheep, who know what they're talking about, who have taste, and who are honest about the dire state of fashion and the world right now. Truth is beauty...even if it's not always exactly what we want to read.

it's less to do with what he himself is as a designer and more to do with who he's the followup act to.

I myself have never been into Chalayan. And god knows how fashion people loved to throw his name around as if his he was the golden child.

I think even if one wasn't much into a designer like Chalayan taste-wise, his talent and unique point-of-view was never of doubt - Not only was he along with McQueen or Viktor & Rolf one of those designers in the late 90ies and early 00's who really produced fashion shows that created powerful and forever-memorable imagery, but he also had his own ingenious way of cutting that made him truely one of the biggest talents of his time.

Much like Theyskens career, Chalayan's wasn't a steady one with at times unfruitful collaborations, like the brief time of his creative director position at Puma or his brief association with Vionnet. Still, I think we can all but agree on the fact that a voice like his, with a more cerebral approach to fashion, is sorely missed in today's fashion landscape.

I loved Chalayans Puma and Im pretty sure I was the only customer back when Puma had their boutique store on 14th St next to Jeffrey and McQ. Back in the day - now that area is like a strip mall.

I remember buying these patent sneakers that later went on sale and I bought a few pairs bc I loved them so much. They went with everything, comfortable, looked great and nobody knew what they were (the best part).
