Saint Laurent Paris F/W 12.13 : Christopher Owens and Kati Nescher by Hedi Slimane

The Facebook Saint Laurent page says more actually and enlights ...
That singer, I guess, is the center of the campaign, and every shot introduces a landmark of YSL reinterpreted by Hedi Slimane for his upcoming adventure ...
The jewels, now the escarpins ...

i can't stand the new direction that slimane is choosing for the house of ysl. ysl is all about classiness, sophistication, elegance, etc instead of rock'n roll, provocation, tattoos etc. seriously, its value is not about trying to shock everyone.

I agree for the most part, but I believe that YSL is most definitely about provocation.

Well, according to what I've read yesterday from Slimane, he is going back to the roots of Saint-Laurent pret a porter (in the late 1960) ... That is why Hedi's chosen to redesign that particular logo, from the start of his adventure ... I've read two interviews and things were more clear (I'm not saying I like the path he's heading to, but that makes complete sense).
And YSL, in the beginning of his PAP adventure, was all about provocation, rock n roll, drugs, art, and sexuality ...

Regarding these teasers, I'm tired of this marketing tactics ... and the fact, he's all over the place (not speaking of his art direction in YSL) makes thing unclear ... But I guess after a couple of seasons, we'll understand ... I hope so ...

Any insiders to tell more ???!!!!

I don't really see the provocation in the shots, and tattoos, piercings, etc don't really seem to be over-exposed either. There is a clear sense of luxury being seen through these images, And to be honest I was getting tired of the past campaigns so I am happy that a designer is taking creative initiative with the label.

You know, the funny thing is I recently had this dream about the new Yves Saint Laurent collections...I can't quite put my finger on it, all I remember was that it was beautifully styled, for some reason he used greens, yellows & reds and the venue was dreamy too....

This reminds me heavily of Prada's S/S 87' campaign, the whole composition of it, it particularly reminds me of one shot out of that campaign very vividly.

This is exactly what I envisaged Hedi executing in terms of his campaigns for Saint Laurent, so it hasn't really came as that much of a surprise, this is his aesthetic and I am excited to see what he'll shoot for the womenswear.

the image itself is quite nice but it doesnt represent ysl or anything that has to do with luxury. it looks nothing like an ad.

im not sure what to expect from slimane's new approach for ysl. "YSL" is an iconic name not saint laurent. it takes decades for a house to build up its name. i still dont get and probably will not get as why slimane renamed as saint laurent paris.

i dont know how his clothes will turn out to be but just judging from a business angle, i dont anything promising in slimane new approach.

it's been explained over & over the name change, aesthetics are a throwback to YSL's first PAP line: Saint Laurent rive gauche

the poses, the b&w, the nudity are all references to those early days..

I love the new direction Slimane is taking Saint Laurent, but nothing will ever compare to the raw sexuality of his early to mid-70's campaigns. And thank you, Izreal for sharing the vintage ads! The last one with Vibeke is quintessential Saint Laurent!

the last one isnt ad, as well as the first one with naked Yves. the last one is an infamous outtake from Newton shooting for september 1975 issue of vogue paris. ad campaign here is only in the middle

Thanks for the clarification.

the first one is an ad, although for perfume... the iconic newton shot is what hedi has said to be his biggest influence in ysl legacy imagery

I think it's hysterical that there's so much negative reactions to what Hedi's done so far. These ad campaign shots, not to mention the name change are an excellent tribute to monsieur Laurent's work & nothing here has Hedi written on it in an obvious way.

Yes, definitely an ad - and a very famous one at that.

As far as the new ads go...they're ok but I feel it's a little over the top Sturm und Drang....as if made by someone who's only heard about it but doesn't know what it's really all about.
