the way he photographs musicians resembles more a 'got milk?' campaign from the late 90s, you have this big name.. with an incredibly buffoonish air about them and what they do.
this is a very interesting point. i agree, to an extent. but i see it more in his clothes than in his actual photographs. as in: the buffoonish air you mention, i see it in his idea of what rock'n'roll looks like in terms of clothes.
all his collections feel costumey to me cause his idea of 'rock fashion' is so trite and try-hard and disingenuous (at least in 2015. a full on replica of what marianne faithfull or keith richards would wear in the 70s to me is about as 'rock' as buying a ramones tshirt at h&m).
