Self Magazine

She looks unrecognizable on the cover & also the layout is very cheap, for the big letters.

Of course it's cheap, it's Self!!

It looks less cheap than most of their other covers, at least it's something different.

Thanks a lot for the scans GivenchyHomme! Apparently Joyce Chang is the new EIC, can you confirm whether she edited this issue?

As I expected, the cover is actually much better with this quality.

She did. :flower:

Self Digital

Wonderful! Love the direction Joyce is taking the magazine. Back when Self first came out, they used the top models and photographers of the day. It's not new, but it sure is welcome!

hmm. mixed feelings on the High Fashion-ization of Fitness magazines.

i used to subscribes to SELF in the early to mid 2000s as a reprieve from all those unwearable and ridiculously priced designer garbs and not mention to alternative body ideals.. and don't even get me started on high fashion "sporty/athletic" themed editorials completely devoid of functionality or practicality...

I will for sure have to check out this issue to see if SELF is able to maintain a balance between showing us high fashion industry models whose body ideals are historically dictated by thinness and workout enthusiasts and athletes who come in different shapes, sizes and heights driven by fitness.

Isn't it imperative, especially nowadays, for these fitness magazines to broaden their focus? To make it into some sort of servicey all-in-one fashion/beauty/fitness/nutrition magazine? So to combine the three seems smart. Otherwise women would have to pick up like 3/4 different issues every month. People just don't have the attention span for that nowadays.

Meidude, thanks so much for posting! :flower: Not a fan of the cover, but I love Hilary's editorial. She's the perfect girl for this type of story, very healthy looking and athletic. Clever move on the stylist behalf to have her wear football cleats, heels would not have worked. Glad to see SELF is continuing this model streak.

Dancefashionista, all SELF updates now gets posted into a single thread reserved for them, just like Lucky, and the worldwide mags. Perhaps one of the mods can move this there?

I really do not understand this magazines overhaul. Are real woman supposed to relate to supermodels being active? Whack.
