I was very anticipating when I saw the cover and some of the content of this issue surfaced online and I have to say this issue doesn't disappoint at all. Actually Self Service has been delivering for quite some issues.

And it's interesting to see Paolo Roversi and his polaroid works as the starting point of this issue although Polaroid is never a stranger for Self Service as the founder himself (Ezra Petronio) is famous for his polaroid work as well. Taking the releasing time of this issue into consideration, I couldn't help but thinking about another publication which did a polaroid issue recently as well (Vogue Italia Feruary by Steven Klein). Actually it's not very fair to compare these two as one is an independent biannual publication and the other one is a monthly periodical by a multi-business media giant. Don't get me wrong, I like both but for me, this issue of Self Service plays with the concept of polaroid in more dimensions. You can see not only Paolo's magic polaroid style eds but also other photographers' takes in this format/style. What's the best of this issue for me is those personal polaroid collections/archives. It really adds something else into this issue.

If you like Paolo Roversi or the vintage feeling of Polaroid photos, you should think about getting this issue.

 

[Creative]

Anja's ed is very 2009 in a good way, although it's not that great tbh.

And nice to see Elodie working for Self Service again... She's a nice girl, but can do much better.
