Wow! People have some awesome ideas and ability!

For gothic industrial night at my local club, I came up with a design for a tank that was semi-bondage-ish, but still masculine. With a slash detail across the chest and a circle on the upper back:

Then I pinned it:

aaaand the final product!

I ended up having to double the amount of grommets that I put on the tank. The fabric is so soft and stretchy that a single lacing (as per my sketch) wouldn't have held it all together in an even fashion (and it would show a bit too much skin haha). The double lacing shows a sliver of skin and provides more even gathering.

For the front slash detail, I cut out and stitched in a solid red piece covering the entire inside front (edges stitched to the tank top's seams so it's invisible from the outside) and cut a slash through the black. Since the fabric naturally pulls back, it exposed the red inside without a problem. The upper back circle was just traced out and stitched on with raw edge out for a more deconstructed feel.

Gonna christen this baby tomorrow night at the club!:D

I've been thinking a lot about that Galliano jacket project.... It's definitely one I'd love to undertake. Gotta print out the patterns in full size at kinko's... hahaha

elegance, looks like it'll be a great skirt! Maybe you could add a discreet slit in the middle back (or possibly on the sides?) if it's hard to walk in?

Pics of my wool gabardine drawstrings trousers I made a couple of weeks ago in a hurry. Side pockets, zipper, drawstring. That's about it, but they're serviceable... I'll make the next ones a little better, when I'm not so pressed for time. They'll have belt loops, back pockets and so on. I've been wearing them today, so they are a little wrinkly...:

it does have a slit up the back i just couldnt take a back picture of myself:doh:

it also have a little V detail cut out of the top of the back in the centre for the braces to attach to either side. i'll take better pictures when i've made up my final piece since it will have all of the little robots on it aswell.

.f. love the pillow case thing. Really cute!

nice pants tot

I'm thinking I might get a sewing machine as well. Cuz I keep wanting to do things too!

urd... would like to see another pic of the coat you made. Very nice. Everything you make is beautiful!

You want a list? It's too big!!

Recent clothing:
(sewn from scratch)
skirt
capri-ish sweatpants (mostly for summer & pj's)
zip-up hoodie

(reconstructed)
stenciled t-shirts x4
jeans -> skirt

I LOVE sewing my own clothing. That way I can custome fit and design! Some of those things I've made have used patterns, but I love just exploring and making things up as I go (so I have LOTS of bags).

My next projects will include a few dresses and some tank tops. And probably a v neck sweater.

I bought this vintage fur jacket (rabbit) and I'm costumizing it into a fur vest for myself... I was just wondering if somebody has some good sewing tips for fur??

OT: And can dye rabbit fur?

Sewing: Preserving Original Hem: "Eurohem??"

I've heard of a new technique of preserving the original jean hem called "eurohem" .

Does anyone know how to recreate the hem to look like the original?? or maybe have details on how to do the eurohem (w/pics)? It looks very tacky :yuk: and unproffessional  to hem jeans for someone and then the hem perfectly matches the rest of the jean leg lol.

Thx lots :flower:

Hi i have never sewn any thing before except hems on my jeans. My question is does any one have any projects to get me started. Eventually I wnat to make some canvas pants, different shirts and some hoodies.

Hi,
I am trying to make a few simple shirred babydoll dresses for uni. I handwove the shirring elastic onto the bobbin as per instructions, but I dont think I did it even enough. I sewed a stright line and it didnt shirr enough. It just looked like a stright stich :( I am wondering if maybe I was pulling the material too tight. What settings should I put my machine on and any recs about how to get the elastic even on the bobbin.

I am just trying to make something similar to this dress:

when winding the elastic onto the bobbin you should stretch it while winding it on the more you stretch the more the gathering.

hope that helps:flower:

I just bought a sewing machine recently. It was mostly used for hemming up my trousers and jeans, but I am now very interested in learning dressmaking. I would really appreciate it if anyone could give me tips on how to start learning or practising. :flower:

a dress I made for myself

and a jacket I made for my boyfriend...it doesn't fit :ninja:

i think if you want to keep the originalhemof the jeans, you have to cut it off with enough seam allowance, readjust the height, and basically sew it back on, with the seam as invisible as possible.

sorry, never done it, so i cant really elaborate but as i have heard that is pretty much the process.
