I was inspired by a Chloé dress, looked at some pics

I made this today:

yah...i know which chloe dress you're talking about...thats where i got the idea for the one i am doing....i work at a fabric store though, and another girl came in that wanted to make a similar one and was looking for a pattern by New Look that is the same dress :) and then i was like "oh...they do have a pattern like it".....i hate using patterns!

BohoChick - gorgeous dresses:heart:

im putting the finishing touches to my skirt that im making i always feel so proud when im making something because i know its my own^_^

Boho :woot: Oh my  You have a talent m'dear!!

EIR - are we going to see?? :D

Thanks!! Talent, I don't know, I think sewing is about patience, taking the time to measure and make it perfect.

I just bought some beautiful white broderie anglaise fabric, I'm gonna make a top or something. I guess I'm hooked
And its like you said, EIR, it feels so good, I get proud of myself B).
Please post pics!!

i'll post when im done the skirt is finished but i still need to make the braces with all the little robots on but i promise i'll post it since i'll be so darn proud i've finished it!

here's a bag i just did a few weeks ago...it's black lambskin with nickle hardware....i have more in another thread over in the handbag section....and as soon as i finish some clothes, i'll post them here too :)

question for all??

how would you go about drafting your own patterns from scratch???? ive sewn maybe a skirt adn a basic dress from a commercial pattern. how do i for example make a jacket from scratch , using a sketch . please please tell me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well, depending on the sketch, you will need to know basic tailoring with concepts such as darts, tucks, fitting sleeves and such. i would suggest finding a jacket you really like and already own, or go and buy a pattern, and make one that way. fitting sleeves is really an art and there are many ways and tricks to do this. i really think you should get a book or pattern or something to learn jackets. im saying all of this, as they are my favorite thing to make, handbags being second to jackets. little details and learning techniques of different cuts is REALLY important....so maybe i'd do something simple with sleeves before you attempt a jacket.

a lot of the time, i go to thrift stores and pick up vintage jackets and then make patterns off of them. this really helped me understand different ways to do sleeves and cut certain pieces slightly on the bias to make the fit perfect. also, i find vintage jackets to have better tailoring as opposed to the ones out there today.

maybe if you posted the sketch i could give you some specific tips if you'd like :)

wow bohochick i love those two dresses! they are absolutely gorgeous
you gave me inspiration :D i need to start sewing

ok, by popular demand (ahem .francesca), here are some photos of a little "collection" i put together... i showed it to a very good friend and he had some nice thigns to say, but also said that it is obvious i'm influenced by phoebe and miuccia..i disagree with prada becasue i wasn't even thinking about it when i made this. And can i jsut say that i started working on this way before the chloe collection came out, so the white dresses are a coincidence. i hope you understand..
