I tried sewing my first article of clothing a while ago. I just made up the style on my own. It was a pleated sleeveless top. But I cut something and ruined it. Anyway, it didn't fit around the shoulders. But otherwise, it was a good start. Maybe I should just try again.

you can get patterns online often with a discount. Go to voguepatterns.com

I just made this dress with a vintage vogue pattern i snapped up on ebay.

WOW! That's amazing educo ^_^

I'm currently doing a fashion design course from home and have only made 1 skirt so far - will post a picture up soon. But I love doing stuff like this.

Even if people are not very good, it's still good to experiment and see what you get ;)

Experimentation is always good, that's how you get better.

just finished.... well nearly, a hounds tooth pencil skirt with bright red lining:heart:

just need to hem it to the right length since i tried it one and it looked a tad too long.

will post pictures tomorow if i can find my camera in the chaos

Does anyone have any tips for me? I am an absolute beginner "seamstress" and I'd like to make myself some simple clothes or accessories but I have no idea where to start ..... what is really easy to make? I'd love to make quilted satin cushions for my bed....

I sew my own clothes too and I drafted many of them.
Here are some of the things I've done:

I googled "Learn how to sew" and got loads of hits, for instance:

http://www.sewing.org/enthusiast/html/e_learntosew.html
http://sewing.about.com/

Reading a bit is a good way to start, to get a feel for what is required, sort of. And remember, practice makes perfect... ;)

go to fitzpatterns.com. They have some patterns, some are free, some are not, but they have simple, cute items that are pretty easy to sew. A good reference is the Reader's Digest Guide to Sewing. It's a sewing bible.

Also, alot of pattern companies (Vogue, Butterick, McCalls) have "easy" patterns for beginners sewers as well.

I was just looking at a few pictures of the projects here. I am new here and It will take me a while to look thru everything but I'm goint to. I am trying design and pattern making. You guys are good!
