On the weekend I was craving a bubble-hem dress, so I made this starting from an a-line pattern and adding a yoke, back seem, elastic, and ribbon to add some colour. Nothing too complex, jsut good to slip on.

Oh, I also put in a hidden pocket on the right side. Love pockets.

thank you~ oops I can't believe I wrote seem and not seam. It's a good dress to throw on when it's too hot to do much else, I think

Yesterday i bought my first sewing machine, a Janome model 7025. Now i'm to find lots of time to play about with it. I'm going to have a proper read through this thread too and see what helpful things i can find.

Anyone know what a convertible collar is? and what does it do..
I don't understand 'convertible'--I've seen removable collars though
I haven't been able to find anything on it online

um, i know there are collars that have a zipper along them and have a hood that rolls into the collar...

cute dress BTW! /\ that blue one at the top of the page!

i just finished a black jacket from a french vogue pattern. I've never done an advanced pattern before, as i really dont like using patterns period...but it came out really nice. the patterned called for wool/denim/etc...but i wanted a slick black jacket for summer, so i did it out of linen and cotton chambrey. i'll post pics later...my camera battery just died..

here it is...sorry the pics aren't that great. it has an off-center front zipper, zippers on each cuff and a bunch of paneling you cant see because it's black. overall in total, there are 24 pieces to the pattern, the sleeve are in 4 sections, the front has a ton of seaming and theres a peplum cut on the bias.

Wow everything in this thread is great!! Some of it is really inspiring too!
I just finished a National Diploma in Fashion & Clothing in which our last project was to make 3 outfits based on any theme we like. I based mine on Art Deco architecture in New York as i was going there on a family holiday anyways.

We got to put our clothes into a catwalk show with some of the other students on different design courses. It ran 6 times, 5 at our college and once in the town centre where we had a big turn out every night which was very exciting ^_^

Anyways heres what i made

This is the 1st dress

I have really been in the mood to sew lately, but I haven't had any fabric. I'm finally getting to go on Saturday to get some! :bounce: I'm thinking of making a couple of linen dresses and some pillows for my dad's new house. Does anyone else have "Sew U"? I'm thinking of taking the pattern for the white blouse and lengthening it so it would be a dress and instead of lace strips down the front, take leftover of the fabric I used and kind of fray the edges a bit. I'm planning on using a greyish-lavender cotton. I'm just so excited, had to share it somewhere!

I bought some cotton interlock, and instead of folding out it is just a big tube of fabric. So, I don't know where to place the pattern (I can't tell where the selvage is, etc.) Do I just need to cut it or what?

There's nothing I love more than sewing well-tailored basics. Makes me want to shoot American Apparel the finger.. hahah ;)

Here's some pictures from a fashion show I helped put on (the theme was China)...these are my 5 outfits that I sewed.
