i'd started this dress a long time ago- and now its been just sitting patiently waiting for me to finish it.

shes pictured without a sleeve, and in dire need of a good pressing. :flower::heart:

my goal is to finish tommorrow.

^ looks wonderful!

did you draft your own patterns?

the fabric works well with the design lines/fit, etc!

i'm looking forward to the finished piece...also curious to see the back.

:flower:

thanks!

yes i draped the pattern myself- kind of a rainy day project! i'll post more images when its completed. :flower:

shame i cant wear it haha. i'll probably give it to my sister.

I just finished (well...almost, I have to do the lining then I'm done) sewing a coat that's inspired by 18th century France, watteau pleats, Marie Antoinette, etc. I made it out of upholstery fabric because the print was so perfect, it's a floral motif, very Versailles! I'll post pictures soon!

cant wait ot see some finished projects!!

softgrey~ yes, you need to get jeans/denim needles as well (sometimes i totally forget the lil things)

iyemstoopid, I love the purple dress! I'd totally wear that..

Sounds amazing!!! :woot: can't wait to see.

Here's my outfit that I'm working on now for a fashion show I'm helping put on, the theme is Marie Antoinette/ French Gardens, etc. This coat/ cocktail dress ensemble is inspired by the total look of Marie Antoinette's bedroom. The wall coverings, the bed curtains, the headboard, the bedding, the furniture, etc are all in this floral pattern, and that was the inspiration. Here is a picture of her bedroom-

So for my outfit, I have a watteau pleats inspired coat in a floral upholstery fabric, a cocktail dress in the same fabric and then I will get some shoes and cover them in the same fabric as well so it's a complete and total floral look.

The cocktail dress actually isn't sewn, it's just draped and folded and pinned on the dress form!

^^Thanks! The pattern doesn't really match on the front of the jacket, but it's not very distracting, so it's ok. I'm trying to be as couture in my planning and sewing techniques as possible!

The coat doesn't look phenomenal on the dress form, but on a person it looks gorgeous! Especially when they pose like this-

that's beautiful! it definitely reminds me of Marie Antoinette's bedding...I was in awe when saw that fabric in person

I looove the dress, at first when i saw the picture of the bedroom i thought it could turn out a little corny but actually i really like it its really weareable. The only thing im not sure about is the coat, the dress has a beautiful siluette and the coat seems to hang too loose for my taste, maybe if it was a littler tighter....but thats my opinion, anyways, great job! its an awesome couture piece:flower:

^^Well, when I have the model walk out, she's wear the coat all the way down, then she'll take it off and drag it behind her...

...dragging a coat behind you is so couture!

Also, on the dress form it fits looser. On a real person, it's very fitted in the sleeves and the upper part of the coat is actually quite tight in the back. Once I get it finished I'll take pictures of it on a person! I'm really excited to finish it!

Any ideas what I should use for a lining? A solid color or another print?

if you could get a silk moray, or a printed taffeta, or silk dupioni, that'd be soooooooo couture! (and very marie antoinette!!)

sooo pretty! i love vintage-looking florals. the coat would even be great with a dark pair of jeans and a tee...

for the lining, i say you hand-dye some silk!! go for a tonal sort of marbled effect in one of the colors in the print... how gorgeous would that be? esp in dupioni like jun suggested? :woot:

Dior couture, I really like that dress! That would look great at a society wedding or spring christening.

I want to sew a sweater out of viscose or some thing like that type of material...do I need a sewing machine? What should I use? lol I am so clueless!
