Sexual Misconduct Allegations in the Fashion Industry

i do feel free and i choose not to...
i've shared plenty right there...

thanks though...

...

It was during an interview with The Gentlewoman's EIC, Penny Martin....

But do yourself a favour and read the entire interview here! It puts Alexander Wang's S/S17 campaign very much into perspective!

Thank you ... can't give you karma right now. (There's something to fix about tFS ;)) I searched but couldn't find this. Also, I've never seen a picture of them before, and am shocked to find that Vinoodh is a man! Alrighty then.

Jesus, Demarchelier?? Not his biggest fan, but I'm thinking how many current young models he's been working with and building up! Are you just predisposed to abuse your power once you've reached a certain stage in your career, or what??

And I'm sorry, but Anna Wintour's credibility needs to be called into question. We only know of this one girl who sent out a warning, and got nowhere, but how many others may have done so as well?

The Templer story sounds like coercion to me. Doesn't make it ok at all, indeed, it makes it just as disgusting. He wanted a nude shot, at any cost. Get someone who's willing to go along with it then!

Oh my goodness! All these names dropped from nowhere!

Truly, and deeply surprised and bothered when I saw Anna’s name on there. She’s one of the many women in power that I look up to, and seeing that her name in involved is just as disappointing. In a different pov, surprised that the ever so strategic Anna Wintour didn’t see this coming. However, her job’s safe, she knows it.

Benn, I agree that there may be more, but, I truly believe that they didn’t just write to Anna. How many magazines employ these photographers on the regular basis? How many fashion editors knew?

they are married with a kid...

FYI-
young stylist assistants and stylists are also regularly subjected to abuse of various kinds...

there is no one to report anything to...
so many freelancers- there is no "human resources" dept for freelancers...
and if you do report anything - you will just not be hired next time cause you are a 'troublemaker' or what not...
it's keep your mouth shut and go along or be blacklisted

*and think about it- if you work for a condenast publication- and leave on bad terms...
you will be barred from ALL condenast publications...
this happened to many many people with great regularity...
maybe it still happens...probably it does...
hopefully it will stop...

a lot of people whe have been guilty of complicity have found their souls and are speaking out, even though they will probably be criticized for their part in it...
but they are admitting their guilt and speaking out as a way to atone...

i'm all for it...

now- i want the people who used to work at Trump's agency to come out of the woodwork and tell us the dirt about what went on there...cause i get the impression that it was basically just a legal escort service...
young girls and women gotten here with the promise of modeling jobs who never got any work but got invited to a lot of 'dinners' with rich married men...
we call them "model-f*ckers" in the industry...
creepy, gross guys who just hang around even though they have no real connection to the industry...

they get the girls drunk, feed them drugs and then pounce...
the girls feel too embarrassed or helpless to speak out about it the next day...
so it just keeps happening...

i've been to those parties...
i didn't like them...
they didn't like me either...
i stopped going...
...

don't get me wrong- some of the girls are also gold diggers...
they aren't all innocent and wide-eyed...
plenty of older ones lying about their age and hoping to get a rich boyfriend...

it's all gross...:ninja:

there are a lot more women photographers now though...
maybe that is helping>?

When the Mert Alas, Meisel and Steven Klein stories start dropping, the industry will implode.

I've never actually heard anything about Meisel regarding sexual assault/harrassment. However, there are lots of stories of him being a Grade A a$shole. Supposedly he won't even talk to anyone but his first assistant and the editor/stylist, but people just chalk it up to it being his "method."

Surprisingly, the only stories I've heard about Klein doesn't necessarily involve coercion or forcing himself on anyone, but he apparently has a lot of "love" to share and that he does, usually with very willing participants (I guess you have to consider the power dynamics here?). Klein also isn't overly discrete with his sex life. Like Marc Jacobs, one can find him on Grindr hunting and that is no crime.

Mert Alas... no words. None!

^^Dont tell me Meisel has skeletons in his closet too ...

I sure hope not, but I don't think so. Even if he's an a$$hole (and I do believe that), that's not illegal.

So many names though. Wonder about Sims or McDean, who aren't gay either.

About the stylist work, there's a very thin line between work and sexual misconduct.

Agreed about Meisel! Also, I have heard nothing about Sims and McDean. They seem like professionals to me. So far no Brit photographer made this list, hope it can be kept this way.

I don't think there's anything on M&M. They seem like nice people no?

I'm looking at the fashion imagery I grew up with, and wondering how many of those dreams came at a dear cost to the faces in the pictures and all the hands behind the scenes.

I'm most surprised and shocked about Kadel. Demarchelier and Bellemere however...I guess it was almost Weinstein kind of clear to almost everybody in the industry.

I don't know if she's said it in interviews before, but Christy Turlington accused Demarchelier of a Sampaio-Bellemere-Lui type of incident in last week's Zeit Magazine.
My translation: "Once, she says, when she was 17, a minor, she was shooting with famous French photographer Patrick Demarchelier, normal fashion pictures, a routine type of production. At the end of the shooting, however, he took a picture of her that showed her half-naked. Her hair did cover her upper body, but not completely. "This picture has been haunting me for years," she says, "I still recall telling my agent and he said it was not okay and he was going to talk to his boss. Everybody was super upset. Or at least everybody pretended to be super upset." Nothing happened, she says, the picture got published and has been in the world ever since."

Also, lol at this thread being tagged "penises." I'm sure whoever searches tfs for that word will be very happy to end up reading this thread.

I think that Sims, McDean, Meisel and Lindbergh are totally clean. I'm in shock after reading about Karl and Patrick. This is a nightmare for me, but it makes me mad that evevrybody knew it and nobody had the corauge to say something (and I don't refer to the victims). The silence of many makes possible this kind of perversion.
