3 Victoria’s Secret Angels Remember Their First Vogue Casting Polaroid

Sigrid Agren

Years at Victoria’s Secret: 2012

Country: Martinique

How did it feel getting your first casting Polaroid shot by Vogue?
It was very intimidating already coming to New York. Being from Martinique, that was a big thing; it’s like going from a small city to the biggest one. Then you’re told you have to go to a meeting for Vogue! I was very shy when I just started, I was just happy to be there and it was kind of unreal and surreal.

Do you remember what you wore?
It was winter, and I had no idea how to dress warmly. I remember putting on black boots, jeans, and a black sweater. I was just keeping it simple and trying to be classic.

Do you remember anything out of the ordinary that day? Did you prepare in any special way?
I remember running late to everything! I was kind of lost. I remember that I was in Times Square and I was just overwhelmed and had no idea where to go. I had six castings that day, and I didn’t know if I should call my agent. In the beginning, that is a lot—especially if you didn’t know how to get around. It’s like “Good luck! It’s your first day and you have six castings!” It was challenging but I enjoyed it.

I had no idea about going to a casting, I had no idea how to plan, so I was just going. I don’t think I wore any makeup—I think I just went as natural as I could be.

How have you changed since then and what have you learned?
That was seven years ago, so I’ve grown a lot. I have been working as a model since I was sixteen, you work with older people all around the world and you travel a lot—that makes you learn faster and quicker than if I had stayed in school in Martinique. I’ve changed but at the same time I feel like I am the same person. I have the same friends from Martinique and I’m very close with my family.

As for Victoria’s Secret, it’s your second year. What have you learned from the first show?
It was one of the best experiences of my career because I’ve done a lot of shows during Fashion Week, but this one was such a different experience. It’s very gratifying and exciting—there are so many cameras and media, along with the performances, the people singing, and the audience. I feel like now I know more about what it is, I’m more prepared, and I’m looking forward to it. I can be more comfortable and enjoy it more.
