Sk-ii

Im currently using the skin refining treatment and the eye treatment film, one of the better products among the huge amounts that Ive tried, although for some reason it doesnt seem to work as much as it did for me when i was 20, im 24 now and when I stopped using it back then, there was a noticeable skin change the moment I stopped. Used to use the daily hydrating gel/mask thing, which I feel works best for me in the sk2 range, might get back on it. I dont think its that expensive actually, other asian skincare ranges do cost as much well almost, of course its in a different price bracket from say a clinique.

Bottomline, it does work, although I do still have my doubts. Then again I use it with conjunction with my Murad and Dermalogica ranges and not with the rest of the sk2 range, maybe thats why.

I just started using it, and I have had a minor... kind of major break out... ?? :yuk:
I guess I will just stick with it a bit longer... I'm using the Facial Treatment Essence. I was using the gel cleanser, then I noticed that it had mineral oil in it... So I have stoped. (Mineral Oil blocks pores...)
I believe ure using the gel cleanser with makeup remover, they have 2, one with and one without, I vaguely remember the one with makeup remover has mineral oil, I could be wrong though.

I've heard bad things about its ingredients as well - I don't think it's great for sensitive skin because I once tried the cleansing lotion and ended up with red welts on my face.... having said that, I react to just about anything....so it could just be me.....

I saw this brand on ebay when I was trying to find some whitening products for some discoloration on my forehead and between my nose and lips.I went to the doctor she checked the website and told me there're no specific facts that the products do well so I did not buy it,she gave me mela-d from La Roche Posay but I'm still wondering if they really work :innocent:

i really like their facial lift emulsion lotion ( i know it's meant to be an anti-aging product). but it really helps tighten and "shrink " my face.

Most labels targeted at asian skin, generally believes in a more apparently natural wholesome approach, think chinese medicine vs western medicine, same difference,.

Just because theres no scientifics behind it, doesnt mean it doesnt work, once again think in terms of the chinese med vs western med issue.

That being said, im retracting the statement made in my earlier post, I will not use anymore sk2 products once im done with my skin refining treatment and eye treatment film, I dont feel it works for me as well as it has before, and I don't feel entirely at ease using it, not to mention its rather extravagant prices.

I'm very hopeful that this will work for me. I bought my first bottle at Saks this weekend and I could only afford the pricey $130 essence with the 90% Pitera. I am 23 and hopefully this will protect my skin from aging as I keep using it. I've always had breakouts on my T-Zone (between eyebrows and around nose) and also on my chin, my cheeks have been okay. I was told by the sales lady who was 51 and looked 33 (she had used it for 3 years she said) that my skin would detoxify if I used it. We will see..I'll report back

please report back! I really wonder if I'm going to try the whitening stuff... does it really provide clear skin?

Actually SKII is banned in some countries because it uses a substance that isn't approved by various countries..I can't remember the exact name but it's sorta dodgy. *will research*

Short summary:

[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif]China's quality and inspection regulators in local cities, as well as the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, have asked the company to take action after finding trace amounts of chromium and neodymium in SK-II products, the official Xinhua News Agency reported.
Chromium and neodymium can cause skin allergies and other illnesses.

wow i'm shocked with the comments on skII !!
i thought they were a reputable brand .... :S

Anyone tried their products? I just got the box of 6 Facial Treatment Masks and used one for the first time. It's a cloth drenched in the Pitera SK-II essence that you unfold and has the holes for your eyes and mouth and I left it for 10 mins on one side and 5 on the other, then wrung out the cloth and patted the huge amount into my skin. I could compare this to something, but I wont... :innocent: It was kind of annoying that you could wring out so much product, because I bet a lot of people throw it away. I could have filled a shot glass.

Anyhow I know Pat McGrath has endorsed this line for Saks.com and a couple years ago I taped a Nightline story about women going to beauty counters with hidden cameras and seeing what all the "hoopla" was about this line....they (SK-II) claim that their potent ingredient is Pitera, a yeast that has been fermented in sake.

I googled 'pitera' and I came up with this from the Melbourne Board of Dermatology.

SK-II "Japanese" skincare with "Pitera" replicates the marketing template gullible women appear to adore, no matter how often it leaves them looking older:
  • a crock brand narrative to which themes of mystery, legend, magic, secrecy, international flavour and latent effectiveness are central;
  • a key, easy-to-understand active ingredient which is unique but technically meritless;
  • a confused product range characterized by irreconcilable skin treatment categories based on marketability rather than utility;
  • celebrity endorsement by individuals that owe their appearance not to the advertised product, but to fortunate genetics, plastic surgery, heavy medical cosmetic intervention, and an advertising machine placed to legitimise self-delusion.
The people at SK-II claim that Pitera is a safe byproduct of Sake production, however their products were withdrawn from the market in 2006 after quarantine officials found some examples contained toxic chromium and neodymium.

Thanks for merging, I could not find any search results. :flower:

I fell asleep last night without putting products on my face and I woke up and my skin looked really good, glowy...I love these masks. I want to get the Essence now but I like to buy products in quantities of at least 2 because I hate running out.

Someone mentioned now that I can read the original thread that the results go away and their (they wrote 'your' I believed, but this is biased) skin looked terrible once going off of SK-II. Thats why you stay stocked up! Anything that's working will stop once you remove it...compare it to exercise, building muscle. If you quit going to the gym you'll lose your muscle. Quit the products, the rest explains itself.

Anyhow, who is still using SK-II. I am interested in about 5 things, as usual, when I become obsessed with a new line. :rolleyes:

I love the cleaning ritual of the product one word describes it WOW.....been using it for two months now and I have noticed a dramatic interest. Also, its a Japanese prodcut, and Japanese women are known to take care of their screen, so you can imagine how good the product is!

What product is that, Dulcisima? One of their cleansers?

I'm going to buy
  • Facial Treatment Essence
  • Repair C Serum
  • LXP Ultimate Revival Cream
  • Signs Totality

I dont ever want to take off the Facial Treatment Masks! Pure luxury. I just keep it to myself that they are owned by Max Factor. :ninja:
