Sonam Kapoor admits she is the 'young' face of the brand also endorsed by Aishwarya Rai
The Aishwarya Rai-Sonam Kapoor cold war has been written about and discussed extensively but the two actresses have never spoken about it. Now that has changed. In an interview to Koel Purie on the chat show On the Couch with Koel, The Kapoor girl talked about the Cannes fiasco, and about being the 'young' face of the international cosmetic brand.
A source present during the shoot reveals, "Koel got straight to the chase and asked Sonam what she felt about the Cannes disaster. Sonam initially hesitated, then came the all- telling response: "I don't want to remember it as it is not a pleasant thing to recall."
Always diplomatic
When Koel asked her if she was disappointed about not making it to the festival, Sonam said that she looked at the visit as a part of her "professional obligation." When Koel labelled her 'diplomatic', the Saawariya girl laughed, "But I am always diplomatic, I have never been not diplomatic."
Continuing her questions on Cannes, Purie further asked the young actress to comment on her statement of being the young face of the cosmetic brand. "To this, Sonam exuberantly replied, "I say it as I see it!" and left it there. There was sarcasm in her tone, which indirectly hinted that Ash indeed had taken a back seat in the brand game, making way for the younger actress."
Throughout the interview, Sonam was at her candid best and touched various subjects from being called a motormouth, to her link-up with Ranbir and her films. "It's one of Sonam's most open interviews. The only time you see her get tense is when she's questioned about Ash and the Cannes drama."
The interview with Sonam airs on Headlines Today on June 6 at 7 pm.

Oh the media are going to love this...but what they report about IIFA, will probably depend on what Sonam says about the whole Cannes thing in the forthcoming interview.

But she is right..technically she is the 'young' face of the brand. No offence to Aish fans, but she really needs to get over herself!

I agree Aish needs to get over herself considering it isn't Sonam's fault that the brand chose her as the younger face. However, I do feel kind of bad for Aish considering she is losing quite a few lucrative endorsements to younger actresses, such as Nakshatra to Katrina Kaif.

Exactly. So what if they chose another Bollywood actress? While Aish has a lot more to her name, Sonam is the clearer winner in the style department. Aish isn't the only actress to lose endorsement deals-Preity just lost the Cadbury's ad to Genelia.

^Exactly. She needs to get over herself. I really can't stand her now. I used to be a huge fan but after she married that loser (no offense to anyone that likes him), she became so snobbish and acts like she's the best. That's why I never mentioned her in my book Namaste India! she's just too full of herself.

As for Sonam, she IS the young face of the brand, which represents for the younger girls out there. Ash could be for the older women in their 40s or whatever. Now, why feel bad for Ash?? No. She needs to stop acting immature. She's still a huge star and made a name for herself before Sonam even got into the industry! She should've been thrilled to have Sonam on board and to have her walk down the red carpet with her because they are representing the same brand & also the Indian Culture.

Such a pain that we have to wait till next year to see them together on the big screen :(

I love her honesty. She could've gone to the award season with her dad but didn't. Don't know if this has been discussed but did she ever try out for the role of Latika, didn't Freida say that she beat out a lot of other established girls and considering Anil was in it wouldn't he have told Sonam about it? I don't think she would've passed on such an opportunity, I love her but she still needs time to develop her acting skills...

^I agree she is still quite raw in the acting skills department, but I think there is a noticeable improvement from her first film Saawariya to her second Delhi-6.
I don't know if she auditioned for the role of Latika...but I know there was quite an extensive amount of shooting for Delhi-6 in Rajasthan, which might have been the same time they were filming of Slumdog Millionaire.

Oh and that picture of Imran and Sonam is hot, I can't wait to hear more about their film together.

Anil wasn't invited to Cannes..he was going to go as Sonam's date for two of the days that she was going to be there. I read somewhere, that initially L'Oreal wanted Anil to introduce Sonam to the press as a new face of the dream team...but we all know what happend :(

Not sure about her going for the role of Latika..isn't Dev Patel much shorter than her? Although i think its been mentioned in a couple of interviews that she has been approached for some Hollywood films, but has turned them down so far...

I loved her in Saawariya and Delhi 6...Aisha is going to be such a treat to watch, since the story focuses on just her! Oh by the way, according to Filmfare's twitter Sonam and Imran may be doing another film (apart from the Karan Johar one)!!

^ Thanks for the info! I also thought she did a really good job in Delhi 6. I can't wait for Ayesha and for this film with Imran. Too bad both will be released sometime in 2010! Hopefully we'll get candids of them while they're filming.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought I read that she wasn't wanting to go Hollywood, at least not yet.

^Nope, your right. I think she is just focusing on Indian films at the moment, hence turning other offers down...she's only two films old after all :) But i'd like to know what she's been offered....

Those are such gorgeous shots of them! It sucks we gonna wait a while to see them together on the big screen.

That never occured to me about her auditioning for the part of Latika. I think she would've killed it if she was cast. As for Hollywood, I love taht she's trying to make a name first in the Indian Cinema before considering Hollywood movies.
