Sonic Youth

^YES!!!!! i bought the album last week and i am listening to it constantly. but that one has become highlight for me.

"Massage the History" is definitely one of my favorites on The Eternal. It's trance-inducing, and I love the combination of acoustic guitar and SY's signature noise distortion.

I always loved their song "Eric's Trip"

an oldie but a goodie-haha

I want to see them at Pomona on the 25th in Sept, but I already blew tickets for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs at the same venue for 9/25. Should I still go see the Youth?? has anyone gone to their shows as of late? HELP!

^ You should see Sonic Youth. The last time I saw them was two years ago; they were amazing. They may be in their 40s and 50s, but they have more energy than most musicians half their age. SY is one of those rare bands who sound better live than on recording.

^^^I've seen them a few years back, but you're convincing me to go again... i guess i shall

I'm going to their show in San Diego on Sept. 28th! If by that time tickets are sold out and someone needs a ticket, I have an extra one, so let me know.

Has anyone else grown an obsession with massage the history?, it's so gorgeous, I could listen to it all day nonstop

oil dripping on my head
let's go back to bed
bring him back to me
bring him back to me

oil dripping on my head
bring you back
from the dead, from the dead

here's wishing here with me
here's wishing we could massage
the history, the history

I'm witness to what you do
anything that you feel
in between, between

you and me
you were near
along the sea, floating on debris

you're so close, close to me
you're so close, close to me

oil dripping on my head
let's go back to bed
bring you back, bring you back
from the dead, from the dead

wishing you were here with me
wishing you were here
let's massage the history

all the money's gone, all the money's gone
funny, it was never here, it was never here

here's a song, here's a song,
to massage the history

come with me to the other side
not everyone makes it out alive

I want you to sign my neck

i didn't knew this song, but after listening to it, i find it intoxicating in a lovely way, in a lovely S.Y. way. i fell in love with Tunic, song for karen long time ago, an i still am.

I've recently gotten back into Sonic Youth again after ignoring them for a few years. I used to be obsessed with Sunday and nearly all of Dirty, and I'm happy to see that they have not aged one bit since I last listened to them. Still brilliant.

mims, from what i've heard and seen in live performances SY are something to be witnessed live. kind of like pj harvey is effin amazing live. the experience is something not to be missed.

^^ you know how much i love that song!

talking 'bout SY classics, what about Kool Thing? -- anytime i listen to it i feel i could set the whole world on fire and still declare myself "not guilty"!

^the videoclip for this song on youtube has awful sound, so i thought i'd rather post this video instead of the videoclip

True love has died :(

If the demise of R.E.M. didn't put the final nail in the '90s alternative-rock dream, this news sure will: Sonic Youth super-couple Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore have split up after 27 years of marriage — and the future of the band they've played in together since 1981 is unclear.

The pair confirmed the news in a statement from their Matador Records rep that reads, "Musicians Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore, married in 1984, are announcing they have separated. Sonic Youth, with both Kim and Thurston involved, will proceed with its South American tour dates in November. Plans beyond that tour are uncertain. The couple has requested respect for their personal privacy and does not wish to issue further comment."

The band currently has five dates scheduled on their fall tour, starting with a November 5 show in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and wrapping with a November 14 gig in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Their most recent studio album — their 16th (!) under the SY name — was 2009's The Eternal, which earned an 8/10 SPIN review. The pair have a 17-year-old daughter, Coco, who fronts a band of her own called Big Nils.

In a 2008 SPIN interview, Michael Azerrad asked Moore about being half of an admired rock-star couple:

You have a famously great marriage, which is virtually unheard of for a rock star, particularly when the spouse is also a bandmate. What's your secret?
There's no secret. We've never sold each other out on anything. I can easily follow the allure of wanting to go out and be with the boys, and play industrial noise and smoke pot and drink, but nothing replaces the reality of our relationship. I can't trade that for anything. I can't think of how or where I'd be without Kim's influence. And we're like any couple that's been together for close to 30 years. There's a genuine psychophysical connection. Sometimes I feel things happening in me, and I know that something's going on with her. When you're married and you have that kind of connection, you become really spiritually, psychologically connected. We grew up together, in a way.
spin

read about this earlier. indeed. of all the couples in the world....

and they've actually been together longer than the 27 years they were married as the became a couple as they were forming SY in 1981.

Oh my.. is Spin still realiable? *denial*

How sad. But then everything must come to an end. I only hope this doesn't mean South Youth is breaking up, although it's very likely..

Oh, totally crushed by this news; they were the ultimate cool couple. :(

Hope SY stay together too, but at least i am feeling thankful I have seen them live a few times.
