So this guy came over to talk to my school today.
What can I say?
Firstly, very polite and nice man, with a great sense of humor.I also liked the fact that he really opened up to us and said it like it is. Apparantley he speaks great english, as well as (obviously italian) and french (Paris is where he's mainly at right now).
He started off saying that basically he got into fashion by finding a job that could pay for his summer vacations!
There were questions about him having to deal with Miuccia, as his boss (knowing that she is a difficult and demanding lady) what he said is that he just tried to understand her vision as much as possible and then work these ideas with his own
He also said that when working for Prada we was designing two collections at once, womenswear during the day and menswear during night. And when they saw the collections they loved them both so they used both in the show. And then they invited him to do Jil Sander! So basically what he did was womenswear during day, menswear during night and Jil Sander - during bathroom and food breaks
! hahaa!
When asked about trends and whether he likes to follow them he replied "No", "What's the point of it, it makes no sense, one day its in-tomorrow its out!" He said usually, the ones that are 'very into trends' quickly fall down.
Also, he said it was rough and a bit frighting in the beginning to come to Paris and enter the house of YSL since "everyone in France has an opinion about YSL-from taxi driver to a receptionist!" haha
Then he was asked about what he thinks is going on in the world right now with the ecological problems and all and he said that "there are two options:you can say I don't give a damn or you can say I wanna do something about it, so they are trying to be as eco-friendly as possible these days
And finally, some girls asked him what would he recommend for young designers who want to start off their own line after graduating, and his answer was: " Its really tough out there, lots of competition and, its great that you want this, its a start, many people at my age still don't know what they wanna do, but try not to focus so much on your dream of becoming a designer, put it aside and just create, live and work for at the moment" "and always learn, learn, learn from everything, never judge" we were watching two oh his shows and he said "inetersting but even by watching my own show with you guys just now, I've learning something that I will never let happen again!"
___________
Since I didn't really feel comfortable having a camera in his face (cause i was sitting pretty close) i made just a little video specially for you guys and a quick photo at the end!
Hope you guys were interested!
