Stretch Marks

palmer's products are ****. I used it on my body but my skin still got stretch marks.

Really? oh no! :(

I started using Palmers after a new outburst of stretch marks... looks like they stopped spreading... well fingers crossed...

I need something to fade them... and to prevent new ones... but I don't know what products I should use....

so.. this is my 3rd time getting microderm w/ chemical peel done. I havn't seen the results of my 3rd treatment b/c its still healing. HOwever, after my 2nd treatment, I saw improvements. They were less dense and definately more faded. I should mention that i get soft laser treatments with them as well.

I think soft laser is a rip off.. i have no idea wat it does. The esthetician says its suppose to penetrate the skin and helps it heal faster.. which i think is a load of bull.. but if i didnt get the treatment, she'd blame it on the fact that i didnt listen to her if i ever complained about poor results.. so i went along w/ it neways.

Ill keep you guys updated.

Thanks for sharing! I need an honest first-hand experience to see if I should take the same route you're taking.

I just bought some vitamin e oil today, so we'll see how that works! i just wish they would fade... i am very fair skinned and just hate having these purple marks on me!

*the oil is soooo sticky. does anyone have any tips to help it absorb?

my roommate claims that she had purple stretch marks too.. really bad ones when she was a teen. SHe's extremely fair. She didnt get any treatments and now her stretch marks are not even slightly noticeable. Im not sure about her, but if you tan, you'll have trouble looking at the area.

The oil is very sticky, but its good stuff!! I would use it at night if ur not using any treatments during nighttime.

So far my progress on the microdermabrasian and chemical peel on the back of my leg has been good so far. Hardly any stretchmarks left, its not as deep and a lot has faded. I just need a few more sessions and im probably stretch mark free.

However, im doing the same treatment on my love handles and so far, one treatment hasn't worked at all. The skin hasn't peeled yet, but it doesn't have the same effect as on my legs. I just think its because the skin there is much thicker and requires more microdermabrasian...ie more scrubbing. Therefore if you use this method, Im pretty sure your results may vary from mine depending on where you do it.

Back of your knees is sensitive skin and its thin there.

That's great that the microdermabrasion/chemical peel on the back of your leg has been effective!

Did you start the process in that area after your stretchmarks had already become pale? Or were they still coloured? because I heard that once they turn white/go pale, it's too late.

NOpe.. the stretch marks that i treated was about 7 years old, back in gr. 11. The ones on my love handles are even younger than that and it seems harder to get rid of.

P.S. If you have red/ purple stretch marks, i wouldn't use microdermabrasian/ chemical peels just yet. I would use topical creams such as retin A first..since its prescribed and cheaper and a lot of insurance companies cover it.

I was pregnant last year and used Belli Elasticity Oil - which is the absolute best - but its so expensive! And at the time, I couldn't afford to be buying it every 4 weeks (that's how fast I went through it) So I tried other products...In my experience the Palmer's Cocoa Butter didn't really seem to help because while I was using it, I noticed some faint stretchmarks appearing above my belly button, so I switched fast to Bio Oil and the marks stopped. After I had my baby, I noticed some stretchmarks that I hadn't seen before on each side right above my hips. I put Wheatgerm Oil on them and they aren't even noticeable now. I also used it on my breasts, and the marks there have almost faded away completely.
--- Also something to remember - exfoliation helps to fade the marks too...I used Kosher salt and Olive Oil or Grapeseed oil

Oh, I know that maternity brands like Belli and Mustela sell products for treating stretchmarks, like Mustela's triple action stretch mark cream. Has anybody tried those, and did they work?

hmm.. i wonder if exfoliation using the clarisonic cleansing set works.

Yes I would think it would. I don't know much about the Clarisonic brush, but I've seen it at Sephora. Perhaps use that and then immediately follow up with treatment cream or oil.

Ooh i didnt know that if they were still red/purple then theres still hope! Does anyone know if you need a prescription for tretinoin / Retin A.. or where to buy it from? TIA x

prescription is needed. Otherwise i think alot of cosmetic brands have the ingredient..except ur gonna b paying $$ for it.

I've had stretch marks at the top of my thighs, sort of to the outer side on both thighs, since I was about 12/13. They were never red/purple, they've always been white/pale. Against my already pale skin, you can't notice them unless you look really carefully, but they don't bother me too much anymore. They used to, I was ever so self-conscious when I was younger, but now it is just an imperfection on my body, that makes me...me.

I don't know much about it but my friend was told by her dermatologist that she had what looked like stretch marks but weren't actually striae?

Maybe yours aren't striae either?

Regardless, the fact that you don't care is awesome, that's for sure!

anhpahn, thanks for all your responses. Discussed fraxel with my dermatologist but he seemed not so enthused lol. Said that even supermodels have imperfections and that i shouldn't be so critical. Anyway, the only thing bad about fraxel is that it has roughly 50% effectiveness and even that isn't certain. You need at least three to five treatments, with each costing AUS$1000 approx. for a medium sized area. I think i'll make a booking and see how it goes. Otherwise i will have done nothing about it.
