Stretching Leather Shoes

Does anyone have any tips on how to loosen up tight shoes? I'm wearing new Manolo slingbacks and I'm in agony. Other than taking them to the shoe repair to be stretched, is there anything else I can do?

bare the pain and wear them for a couple days that should wear them in...

stretching manolos!?!? whoa..thats alot of money to risk ripping them or worse..tearing seams

I recently used the big sock technique to stretch a pair-
Of course you'll be doing this inside ;)

*Put on the thickest pair of socks in your drawer-

*Put on your already tight shoes-

*Make sure to walk around, as you will prob. experience some numbness in your toes and/or ankles.

*THE NUMBNESS MEANS THAT IT IS WORKING!!

*Repeat as necessary- the leather wants to shrink back to its original shape, but we won't let that happen!!!

Some people isolate their shoes on plastic bags and put another one filled with wet newspapers inside to fill 'em and them place the shoes on the freezer ... it works, but I wudn't dare to do that to some Manolos ... I'm afraid you'll have to break 'em and suffer -like all of us- :( :flower:

But, umm, why don't they fit? Do you need a different size? Why not return them to the store and let them stretch them?

my mother always make a ball with the newspaper's sheets, moist them a little and put them inside the shoes for hours.

hmm as a shoe designer we have a special spray to stretch the leather of any shoe, which can be picked-up any place for leather or shoe repair store. I have never had problems with this, but I make shoes for a living so if I have a problem I know how to fix it- so you can always check with shoe repair person to make sure the spray is ok for the type of shoe you wish to stretch. But leather over time will stretch from basic wear and tear. :flower:

They are the right size- I originally had bought the 36, which is the size I normally wear in Manolos, and they were horribly tight. So I brought them back to the store and exchanged them for a 36 1/2- they told me that the Carolynes run a bit small. But, I really don't see much of a difference between the 36 and the 36 1/2. Now, I'm embarrased to take them back to the store since I already exchanged them once. So, I was hoping there was something I could do to break them in myself.

I've taken many courses in foot health and anatomy in my program... it all helps in my learning to make shoes properly...
To be quite honest, it's not the shoe you have to wear in. Yes, Leather does stretch with wear, but once you take it off, it retracts back to almost where it was. Technically, your foot wears into the shoe... you blister.. and get callouses... and eventually the shoe and your foot are used to each other.

de nada, but just remember to ask the shoe repair person for the right kind. I hope it helps.

oh no never be embarrased as a shoe designer to have someone bring a shoe back until it fits right is important. Even if they anger with you take it back or your feet will suffer. I did not read right with the size problem, no take it back no amount of spray will make it fit your feet :flower:

i bought these adorable yellow pointy flats, but they are 1/2 a size too small. they are leather, so i was wondering if they would stretch out as i wear them, or if anyone knows how i can stretch them out.:( .

take them to a shoe guy, they can stretch them a bit... but honestly, I would just go exchange them for the right size.

Ya... your feet will thank you for having the right size shoe.

I always buy a full shoe a half size smaller, as after a few wears they stretch out to fit perfectly...If I buy them in the size that fits best when I try the shoe on, they always end up far too big.

You can buy wooden shoe stretchers and leaving them in overnight should make them comfy enough to allow you to wear them, then they'll 'mould' around your feet making them fit perfectly soon enough...

they were the last pair! either 1/2 size too small or 3 sizes too big. i would have bought the right size of i could have:( . i would get a wooden shoe stretcher, but their style is narrow and pointed, it might make the shape of the shoe weird.

**stilista- you are making me feel a whole lot better...thanks. .

This might sound stupid, but put some socks on and wear them around the house...that usually stretches them out a bit. My friend does this all the time and seems to work for her. But otherwise a shoe repair person should be able to stretch them out a bit for you.

:flower: I know what it's like when you have to have the shoes that are too small!!

Shame the shape is wrong for a stretcher....but definitely agree about wearing them around the house with socks. Try wearing them for a couple of hours at a time at home, and you'll soon be able to wear them out without feeling pain!!
