Swedish Clothing

Swedish anti-fashion

Nakkna is by far the most interestering Swedish designer label. Their collections are still a bit small with ups and downs, but the good pieces are at world-class level. Carin Wester is also very talented. Acne is the most overrated brand. JL is getting better and better, but all fashionistas in Sweden hate them because they have been going for such a long time in Sweden and their collections during the first five years sucked. It's pretty much the same story with Tiger. Their AS06 collection is just fantastic, but all Swedish fashionistas hate them. Who cares? Tiger, JL, Acne, Nudie and We are all extremely successful today. I don't think WE will be as successful lin the future.

Julian Red is nice. As with all new Swedish jeans brands, not many people really fit into them.

Cheap Monday will be a huge success all over the world. Who cares about quality for $50? Fashion is not about quality, it's about fashion (=hype, image) and design.

Surely Swedish fashion design is currently booming. H&M has helped a lot. And people generally like doing business with Swedish people. Several of the Swedish brands are based on an "anti-fashion" identity. It's a bit like "I'm interested in fashion, but not what's happening during the major fashion weeks in Paris, Milan and NYC". Or "I'm interested in fashion, but I don't want other people to notice that, except from the few very initiated people". The anti-fashion thing has already become the new fashion. Maybe it's time for anti-anti-fashion - back to Italian 90'-fashion?

BTW, H.Fredriksson in NYC is also a great Swedish label. She regulary shows during NYC Olympus week.

Haha, wow.
I can tell you this - in Sweden they are far far from trendy. ACNE is nearest, but far from trendy.
Cheap Monday on the other hand has the cheapest (and slimmest) jean you can found. Around 40 euro (400 swedish crones)

But I sure hope so, Sweden - the new fashioncapitol.

What about H&M? Its the same swedish cloth company, and very none.:innocent:

H&m

H&M is certainly Swedish and very well-known. There are probably more than 200 H&M stores in Scandinavia. The positioning of H&M in Scandinavia is therefore a bit cheaper, mainstream and less trendy in comparison to their positioning outside Scandinavia. In the US, H&M is considered as a highly trendy medium-range alternative to designer fashion. H&M is probably too trendy for most cities in the US.

Their pieces are really price-worthy with more and more of their own design and identity. They used to be known in Sweden as the copy-cats, but nowadays they even drive fashion and trends themselves alongside the catwalks of Paris. They are extremely good at finding relatively good quality garnments for very low prices.

Many of the new successful Swedish fashion brands have people connections back to H&M. However, Diesel has probably been the most important nursery for new Swedish fashion companies.

EVERYBODY JUST LOOKS THE SAME.

and how could people say acne is nearest trendy? NAJA.

la connaissance inutile;

JL = Johan = old diesel
Acne = Johnny = old diesel
Whyred = Hjort = old dior

What about labels like Dagmar (Houseofdagmar.se) and Hope couldn't find the website?

I like Whyred and I love Cheap Monday although every Indiekid in Sweden wears them. They're cheap and they're fit is perfect, and I haven't noticed the bad quality you mentioned. I guess they're great because they feel just like expensive jeans but they're cheap.

And of course, I love H&M, I buy all the basic stuff fom H&M because a white tank is going to be a white tank whether it be from H&M or Marc Jacobs (but it's a lot cheaper from H&M)

okay well i just bought my first pair of acne jeans last week, and i have to say i'm not so impressed. the fit is pretty good but you could have replaced the label with a 50 pair of jeans and it would have been the same. the jeans are made in turkey too, not that it's a bad thing but for 180euros u'd think that it would be made in italy or sweden!
the jeans stretched a moderate amount already, i am hoping that after i wash them the fit & the denim will improve. otherwise i don't see what the whole craze is about.

Do you mean Dior Homme or Dior (women)? Whyred was launched 1999 and Dior Homme 2001. That's why i'm curios. :innocent:

Why buy a expensive jeans when you can buy a jeans for a smaller price..? Some of the expensive jeans are more comfortable and have a bigger selection like disel, miss sixty etc. Some of the expensive jeans is also uncomfortable... i don't understand people who buy jeans for the logo..

the logo is most important for me, and the price, i never pay under 200 usd for something and the logo must be visible, big and famous, so other could see the expensive jeans ive bought, why should i otherwise buy something?

these discussions are just zzzz.

Thanks for the photos, mona1
"Hope" looks so nice and simple.
The interfacing is neat--it's like it's folded over with no stitches.

agree this isn't the most exiting thread here, but you seem to know alot about swedish designers, maybe you could tell us more about who worked where. I only know Ann-Sofie Back was at acne some decades ago.

i think the h&m in scandinavia has much more better stuff than the h&ms around the world. more variety and cheaper..stockholm has the best h&m. and the most "trendy". they even have a vintage section. so.....

Thanks for the insight on swedish labels. Im wondering are there any online stores that sell Whyred Jeans? The jeans are relatively attractive! How much do these jeans cost in sweden?

no, H&M is pretty much the same all over the world.

^ Although the collection is the same... the selection in the different stores around the world isn't the same...
