Tattoos

part of "the five senses" by michel serres is a beautiful essay on tattoos.

"I touch one of my lips with my middle finger. consciousness resides in this contact."

"now determine where the soul is, by placing one part of your body on another."

"I bear on my skin the tracks and paths traced by the women who have helped me in the search for my scatterd soul."

for serres, tattooing is drawing a soul map.

drawing a soul map is interesting...

i confess that one lonely tattoo doesn't seem to appeal to me...
i might as well just stamp something on my skin...

doing a much broader design seems attractive - in concept and visually speaking- but that requires a lot of commitment and thought and $$ and tolerance for pain which is even less appealing...

Then i started thinking about sort of drawing "jewelry"...
like just a black band around my wrist or my ankle or my upper arm...

Thanks for that perspective, runner...
certainly something to think about...

i will say that i never found that rolling stones cover appealing when I was younger but i am surprisingly drawn to it now...
i guess i am more open to the idea of tattoos now...

:P

to tell the truth, the cover interested me so much somehow that I replicated it with fidelity by hand when I was 15 years old. :P

maybe if you find something that can only be spoken of by means of tattoos ?

here it works, charming in a way, because it's done with a marker. if it's a real tattoo, I'd say it's a fail.

I could've sworn I posted in this thread ... ? I have been thinking about getting a bowie lightning bolt for a while (fight me) and I had the idea of doing it in a b/w Kansai motif, but I just realized... it could be giving SS ? ☹️😭

^^^Don't do it…Some people are going to mistaken you have the Gatorade symbol your face… Whenever I see Stefano’s tatted face, all I can see is really bad edges. Can you imagine having an intimate discussion while sitting across from him and you have no choice but to look at him while talking…??? And it’s a fcukin phrase on his forehead so your eyes can’t help but follow the entire tat from left to right LMFAO

(...Tyrone's gone...?!?!?!)

Omg I didn’t mean on my face!! I meant on my arm or back of neck or something.

And yes I know 😔 I was gonna make a happy new year edit but I got lazy. I’m sure he’ll make another appearance soon lol

I am endlessly interested in other people's tattoos and the stories behind them, but getting one for myself has never been a proposition.

Not only have I seen too many decades-old tattoos become indistinct blurs, it's the idea that someone else is putting this mark on me, even if I would be paying them and agreeing on the design. Doesn't matter. If it's not me tattooing myself and being master of the process of what gets drawn or written on my own skin, it's not going to happen... and given the skills and artistry involved, I know not to try.
