I'd like to get a very small one for my aunty who passed away.. i still get really upset about it and in a way i still dont believe shes gone.. Her name was Donna so i was thinking a D in a really nice font somewhere small.. any ideas?
 
^ I think the most ideal spot for you could be on the inside of your wrist. A small "D" would be able to fit and you can look at it anytime to remind you of your aunt.
But some other nice small places could be behind your neck, behind your ear, etc.

is there anything you unite with her? like if it was a song you could get a clef or notes of a speacial song. if it were flowers, you could get a beautiful flower. ect. personally i would prefer that. if you get a "D" everyone will ask you about that and it´s not your personal memory anymore. a clef or something can look really pretty and will be so much more personal. IMO!
 
I love tattoos, analyze freja beha's, rihanna's, "Real" from Andrew Vanwyngarden...
it's all just about having something not tacky

I completely agree with this advice. When you get a tattoo to commemorate the death of a loved one, best to make it an "inside" reference, like something that your aunt loved or that you two shared. That way it's more sacred and, at the same time, aloof. People always ask what tattoos mean, and sometimes you may feel too vulnerable to answer,"It's D for my aunt Donna."

Yeah i have thought about that alot but theres nothing really that would be a nice tattoo.. She was always there to offer advice and she was an ancient history teacher.. Theres nothing that would be special for just me and her because we were all very close to her.. Maybe D in a different language or something? I dont particularly want it where it can be seen so i was thinking maybe the back of my neck..
 
a tattoo on your neck can be seen so easy.
well what about a picture... uhm...
or a lyric... "your history is mine" (history from funeral for a friend), "I must be strong and carry on" (tears in heaven from eric clapton)
a friend of mine got her dads sign and stars on her wrist because they mentioned stars on his death report (?).
or what about somehitng like beautiful guardigan angel?
or a rosery..
some notes from the song "tears in heaven"
...
 
On this topic of discussion...I am planning on getting a tattoo soon for my little brother who died about 5 years ago; He really loved Harry Potter and got me into it, and I initially wanted a lightning bolt for the reason most of you have given--it would be more personal. But when I drew it up, it kept looking really stupid and hipster-ish, not simple and nice like I wanted.
So now I would rather just get a lower case "b" in a font that i really like on my ankle. I think ultimately, no matter the meaning, you have to get something that is also pleasing to you design-wise, because then you will enjoy it more. Either way, they are both going to remind you of the one you lost-you just have to choose which fits you better.

i usually always wear my hair down so it would cover it without a problem.. I'll have to think a bit more because I only want a small one

my tattoo-artists drewed my tattoos... maybe you can ask some and take the nicest one...

but it´s a lovely idea

and i´m sorry, it must be so hard :(
 
Wings, that is so beautiful. I imagine it is still quite raw and dark, make sure to show us another picture when it's healed.

haha i am so glad i got it! it hurt a lot, espeacially on the spin, but it´s so pretty and the tattoo artist was awesome.

Elegance.Is.Refusal. is going to get her outlines today :woot:
