aliceee: aussie slang has some really funny (and a bit weird ) expressions, but so does the dialect of my town


Here's a coupla things I posted in the very first pages of this thread:


Ma riid anca 'l cüü (mah-reed' un-kal-koo') = you use it when you're really happy about something; literally, it means "even my butt smiles"

and the meaning is that one's so happy that it's as if every single part of the body was smiling, even the...err..less probable parts...

Balabiòtt (bah-lab-yott')= it means more or less "looser", and it's used to address someone you can't count on, or don't like, i.e.; but the literal meaning is "dances (bàla) naked (biòtt)"

Fà balà i öcc (fah-balah'-ee-oatch') = it means "to give a look around", but the literal meaning is "to make the eyes dance"

Innànz che mèrda... (inn-unts'-kemer'-dah) = Literally means "Instead of sh*t"

and it's used when you want to say that you're not really happy about something, but you'll take it anyway. Like, "better than nothing..."

In Australia ... to sound true aussie you have to sort of pronouce Australia just as 'Straya!! And apprently we talk really fast

Hehe I remember the same lil' differences in pronounciation they have in NYC (like, "Houston street" ain't pronounced like Houston, Texas, but more like "house-ton" )

Mmmm...you can say that, just dunno if it sounds that cute in italian...

Maybe "sogni d'oro" could be cuter (= golden dreams - it's like "sweet dreams", but apparently italians are more materialistic )

Yep, though to be precise his villa is in Laglio (you can google-search images as "Villa Oleandra" ) - 12 *** from Como

And no, I don't know him, sorry girls...


...oh, just a funny detail: "Laglio" sounds exactly like "l'aglio", which means "the garlic" - and the pronunciation of "gli" is difficult for foreigners...let's say it sounds a bit like "ll" in spanish, but not completely like that

well Dutch people are supposed to walk on wooden shoes and smoke weed all the time I guess if ppl think you ride on kangaroos it isn't so bad

trueblue, my parents, who are brasilian but have lived in the US for about 20 years and speak perfect english, cannot see a movie with heavy british, scottish, or irish accents. They always say, if there aren't subtitles, for them it's pointless to even go!
