I've always wondered...how far is a block? Do they just mean a building, or does it represent a set distance?

1 Block=100m

^people use it to usually just to mean from street corner to street corner, so it can vary in length...for instance, in manhattan, the blocks from east to west are much longer than the blocks going north south....
