The Balenciaga Thread (June 2003 - February 2009)

I've seen Nicole Richie with her white balenciaga first ( i was told from memory) worn messenger style. Is the length of the band/strap (sorry, I"m not sure of the terminology) long enough for this or is it because she's so small? Thanks. I only want to get one if i can wear it messenger style and I don't really want the messenger bag.

I can wear the city bag across my body like that when I need both hands for something but it's a little snug in the winter w/ the extra clothing and all. The leather is so soft that the bag forms around my body.


I actually thought the marine bag was prettier w/ the giant hardware but I bought the regular instead b/c I thought it would be more classic in the long run or that I'd get tired of the bigger hardware. Plus I don't really wear that much gold. After seeing the shoes and everything else they used the gold hardware on, I'm v. glad I went w/ the original hardware. The giant hardware makes me think of 80's Madonna cones...but it really does look good on some of the bags.

The hardware does look very Madonna--Jean Paul Gaulthier'esque indeed. Saw a girl on the street with a giant bag and it caught my eye while i was driving by. Very bling!

older styles of the first came with a longer shoulder strap...
not sure exactly what year they stopped it...i think late 2004?

nicole richie is delived to have a couple bbag fakes, one yellow, and the white first in question. the older first do have longer straps though, but i didnt think long enough to be worn messenger style.

hopefully the new flat messenger will be a nice alternative

2007 Marine / Navy City:









The actual color is closest to picture #2. The leather, for the person who asked, is thicker than the last one I had. The bag also feels heavier and for some reason seems a little smaller? The strap is stiffer and seems a bit smaller as well. (The last one I had was from pre-fall 2005 for comparison.) This one is at least twice as heavy as my work bag (pictured behind this one).

I didn't get a box w/ my bag - do you think I should call back and ask them to send me a Balenciaga box? Or do they even do that anymore? My bags have always come in Bal boxes before. ??

as far as boxes go, sometimes balny runs out of boxes for certain sizes, i think i remember reading tho on tPF that someone got a box after it was sent to them boxless. try it out!

i just received the cornflower 06 city, i didn't expect the bag to the so light! or the leather to be THAT thin! i think i'm regretting BIN-ing the emerald 06 classique last night the leather in 06 won't 'tear' will it? it seems so thin n fragile

a lot of people seem to agree that Joseph, Daphne, Kim, and Sarah are all really good SA's there.

I've only had the pleasure of buying from Daphne, who is VERY sweet and always picks out the best leathers and colors. So I'd personally reccomend her, but Ive only heard great things about the other SA's i mentioned, especially Joseph.

id be suprised if the GH doesnt go away after a season or two. at worst it will remain a pernament option alongside the original hardware, but the OH aint going nowhere!

Yes, they have the same colors w/ regular hardware. You'd have to contact someone to see what they have in stock.

chic-chik, the leather is def. thicker and the bag seems more substantial and more stiff but I've not had a problem w/ the thinner leather tearing. Some people were worried that it would stretch a little but I don't know of anyone who's had it tear. I baby mine as far as where I put it/lay it down or what kind of weather I carry it in but I use it just like I would a regular handbag in all other respects. They hold up better than you'd think.

you might wanna also try barney's in beverly hills. i was there twice this month and they had a good amount of styles to choose from. i got the white brief with regular hardware and the black city with the new hardware. good luck!

Thanks so much, but (unfortunately) I live in Denmark where Balanciaga is only distributed in one store, which is 4-5 hours away. They do offer to send, but then you of course have to know exactly which bag (color/style) you want, and that's a bit hard since you can't see them physically - also size wise. So basically no Barney's, Beverly Hills for me

Hello Ladies,
I've not been in this thread before, but wanted to share with you. I recently got a Blueberry City from someone on ebay and it's gorgeous. HOWEVER, I was shocked when I measured it and it only measures 14.5" wide! I used to have a City from 2005 (since sold) and it was 15" Wide. This new bag's strap also seems to be shorter. What happened at Balenciaga? Why did they start making them smaller?

^ Oh my gosh miz* the blue berry sounds sweet (show a pic?) plus, that's the exact description like the cornflower city i got fr ebay too! yes, the strap does look strange as it's shorter than the porpotion (right spelling?) of the bag!i do hope it's auth!!
