cloud9, thanks for the page reference! I was looking for that post and couldn't find it. I'll definitely include it. Thanks to everyone else for your kind comments. unimakiboi, at this point, if you show me a bag with Balenciaga hardware, I'm interested. I'm really interested in how they carry the theme across different shapes and styles of bag, some more successfully than others, IMO.

Because I was a bit bored today, and I enjoy explaining things, I took the time to update my dormant blog with a Balenciaga entry.

http://ateliernaff.blogspot.com/2005/06/ive-been-obsessed-by-balenciaga-bags.html

What do you think? is it useful? TMI? you're the only people who know about it so far - the blog isn't listed anywhere. If you think I shouldn't publish it, let me know.

great blog LP!!
i thought i'd read everything there was about balenciagas, but yours had some more! i enjoyed it =)

just 2 things tho..:
1. "Fake bags tend to have short repetitive numbers like 3444 or 6666 that appear on many bags."
my twiggy's serial number has 3444 on the end... um.. should i panic??! my vintage twiggy was verified as def authentic by dudeiloveyou.. is this an acceptable serial number? help everyone?!

2. "If an eBay seller has a large inventory (say, more than 3) of Balenciaga bags, and is selling them below retail, they are fakes"
- there're ebay sellers who belong to the Authentic Balenciaga Forum, who have through reputation etc gained entry, and are trustworthy.. they often have more than one Balenciaga for sale (so have more then 3 in their inventory, though all are different pieces/colours etc)..
But def agree with the below retail thing.. usually a clear sign.

=) kudos to you!
and you guys.. help me w my serial no. panic please!

i just looked at dudeiloveyou's guide to auth balenciaga, and my seafoam twiggy has the exact same serial number as her eggplant twiggy!! same batch number (1st part) and style number! is this possible? when the leather colours are different...

oh btw, the 2nd part of the serial number (eg 3444) is the style number, so 3444 just means "twiggy"..

ack! holly, didn't mean to panic anyone! I mentioned the 3444 number because I've seen it on soooooo many bags on eBay that were clearly fakes - but I've also read that that number is not necessarily unique on each authentic bag. It may be (especially if your Twiggy is older) that it's a genuine number that was picked up by the fakers. I'd love to find out more about the serial number...anyone close to a Balenciaga staffer they can interrogate?

As for the inventory thing - good point, I'll work on wording that better. What is the Authentic Balenciaga Forum, by the way? Who decides who gets into it? And could a faker just use that logo the same way they "borrow" photos?

Thanks, do you know how mutch a white city classique would cost?B)

You can order it directly from the Balenciaga NY boutique and they ship overseas. If you do a search, you should be able to find the contact on their website or this thread.

oh whew, no, the serial no.s are different between my twiggy and dude's.. i mixed up the 8s and 3s!:hardhead:idiot me.

no panic.. it's good!

dudeiloveyou, who's the author of the guide, runs that forum.. i think she has to get to know the seller over some time, and their selling history, and has to basically be confident of their auth balenciaga selling...
the logo seems to be stealable (like an image file), but i assume dude polices all that? *fingers crossed*. i guess if someone sends her an email with the seller's name, it'll be in her knowledge, and she can act if it's dodgy.

This is how I think it goes -

On the card:
2005 3 128523 D941T 108
2005 - year
3 - season? fall? don't know
128523 - style
D941T - no idea
108 - no idea

On the silver plate:
N* 0162C - dye lot (or leather lot?)
128523 - style

On the leather tag:
made in italy
128523 3444

style serial

My understanding was that the style/model number was the same 6-digit number on the card, silver plate, and leather tag.

(Just for the record, by the way - none of the information in my blog entry came from dude's book, it's all from my own research - I don't want anyone to think I'm re-publishing her info. I commented in another thread that I think her book can save you a lot of research time, but doesn't really include anything you can't find out for yourself.)

But I think I need to remove that 3444 mention from my blog, because I don't want to scare people who have a legit bag with that number.

The white was from the spring - its sold out. You need to find it on ebay. :woot:

There is an ivory color being offered from pre-fall, but it is really closer to a very light blush pink.

My black city classique (which I purchased from Bal NY) has the that same 3444 on the leather tag as well.

this is very difficult . . .

But ..... Barneys ...... in.......Seattle ........got a shipment in of B bags (there! I said it) -- they have a medium magenta, ivory medium, ivory twiggy and some others....

am hoping y'all will buy these so I can stop plotting how to get another one! I need to get a grip on myself. Seriously.

it's ok mamab, i can understand your addiction to these bags ! i have a black classique and am waiting for my ivory twiggy. how many do you have in your collection so far ?

maybe_tonight, when did you buy your black city classique? Since you got it at Bal NY it obviously was a legit serial number at some point.

I'm really sorry if I cast any doubt on anyone's authentic bags...!

Aaah, black classique. That's another one I want.

It's bad, bad, bad. I think it's the whole, "if you can have it RIGHT NOW, you want it even more" thing happening you know? It's a problem that stems back to my childhood <laugh> I am very, very impatient.

I have 4 going on 5 and quite frankly, it's one too many for a girl like me. It's crazy and my husband thinks I'm crazy. I'm constantly on ebay, reading these boards and checking out Angel's site for pictures. I'm also constantly on the 'lookout' for things I can sell on ebay to get $$ for another bag. I sound like a drug junkie don't I? Hello?

I'm glad we're going on vacation for a few weeks. Hopefully being secluded and far, far away from any computer, phone, access to Balenciaga will help me. I'm thinking of it as a DETOX vaca....

I got it this past May.

*whispers* medium ivory *flees* :innocent:

I knew it .. I knew it .. I know that I can't walk into that store and see B bags and not get one  congrats on your new bag! :p

Has anyone seen the new magenta color and compared the different styles? I am trying to decide on which style I want......you know how some styles look better with certain colors. I am trying to decide between the day, city and twiggy style. Appreciate your input!

Also, has anyone seen the metallics in person?

are the fall bags going to come August 1st? or will they be a little early? i'm still patiently trying to wait for my navy

Okay, because I have no life, I spent some time poking around eBay tonight, looking for that pesky 3444 serial number. I found 2 bags that I think are authentic with this number - a navy city and a black city (is that the right name for the 15" one?).

Before I got too bored, I found 35 fakes that included a readable picture of the tag - all but 2 of them were 3444, 3555, or 3666 - classiques in pink, brown, black, white, sky blue, anis, grey; citys in apple, black, cognac; and a turquoise overnight/weekender.

So it's a legitimate number AND the fakers use it a lot - um, I guess that's nothing we didn't already know this afternoon. One vendor referred to the numbers stamped on the leather as a "date code".

Sigh. Sorry to bore y'all with this. Perhaps I need to adjust my medications...
