Hm. I have a hobo from 2001 that has a tag exactly like that, with no serial, and the interior zip is identical. At the time they were using YKK zips, not Lampo. Then my 2002 hobo has the double-sided tags with serial and Lampo zipper with tassel. The floppy handles are kind of weird, though - maybe they changed the way they made them when they saw this happen to the first year's bags? Ooh! Check this one: 6831820616 - same vintage, same tag, and I think the handles look the same.

w_d, I didn't mean to make you feel sad, though I'm a bit bummed too. Somebody is lucky, that's all. I feel sorry for the seller, though...

did you ladies waterproof or treat your balenciaga bags before you started carrying them?

NO. I realized that my metallic is already waterproofed because the rain drops roll of it and doesn't get through the leather. I'm not sure about my red one though... haven't tried it in the rain.

I believe that anything on ioffer is a fake. If you read over the past week or so of this thread you will probably learn a lot about spotting fakes and will see referrals to other resources.

Thanks to those (nycgirl, Dreamland, nycmom) who offered feedback re: blue bags with blue jeans - it was 3 for 3 in favor of teal! It's fun to hear how you wear and enjoy your bags.

lucat, this bag is absolutely fake. Yes, the label should say "made in italy" but that's about the only part of it that's okay. I actually reported this bag and others from this seller yesterday, sad to see they're still up... I'm sure they won't send you more photos - they're using some stock photos that they think will convince people, and any closer look will be counterproductive from their perspective.
Holy Toledo! Did someone just get away with a flawless original Balenciaga for $337 because it didn't have a serial number?! If that seller ever finds out the bag's authentic, she's going to kill herself. water_daisy, what are the three differences you noticed? A tiny part of me wants it not to be authentic so I won't regret missing out on the auction. Though I do love this kind of scenario where you find a treasure for next to nothing.

eBay is really inconsistent about when/how it pulls items. If Balenciaga reports the item, they are obliged to pull it, and don't need to inform the seller. But if someone else reports it - I don't know how they handle it. Sometimes I'll report a listing, and when I check back a few hours later, it's gone - but I never know if it's because of my report or something else. Other times, I'll report a listing multiple times and get other people to report it as well, and it stays up and sells for hundreds. So it's a mystery.

BTW, I know this has been mentioned before, but for those of us who send messages to the bidders about the fakes they're bidding on - if eBay finds out, they'll suspend your account - it's against policy to interfere with an auction.

Meanwhile, water_daisy - I'm very intrigued to see this morning that the auction we've been discussing has been pulled off eBay! I wonder what that means? Did someone let the seller know what she'd sold? Or did eBay belatedly notice that the wording of the auction was non-VeRO? (She was selling it as a Balenciaga copy, which is no more legal than selling a copy as authentic.) If any bidders in this auction who are on this forum (you know who you are! ) get an email from eBay, I'd be curious to know the story...

Went to Barneys in NYC today. They had a a city in rouge and ice blue (though it appeared they were on hold for people, but if you start salivating over the balenciagas, they start pulling them out of hiding). they had classique, city, office (?), and hobos in camel pony and black pony. And some calcaire ponies with the rhinestones...They had the long wallet in calcaire pony with the rhinestone studs (not my taste, but really really cute).

Had a lot of small accessories as usual, but nothing stood out

I have to admit it was me -- I can certainly understand your sadness and hope you find another one if that is what you want. The color is really incredible. I am very excited -- this will be my first b-bag and it took me a while to figure out that this was what I wanted more than any other style or color. The fact that I wanted to get something before Christmas (as present for husband to wrap for me) led me to bid a little higher than I had originally planned.

Since I got the teal city, I will be returning a rouge city to Barney's (Chestnut Hill, MA) within the next few days. The color is really gorgeous but I don't think the shiny leather feels right for me. Another reason I went for the teal is that I wanted my first b-bag to have the "older" leather.

congrats drchris. the teal is beautiful and goes with everything. we can certainly understand you not wanting the rouge city if you're lusting over the older leather. i'm from boston too and i find the barney's chestnut hill have very limited stock in display but i'm guessing the SAs probably have them hidden in the back room.

Thanks! I think that a new Barney's is supposed to open downtown (Prudential Center?) next year. We can hope for more options there.

Yes, thanks to the help of many on this thread I got my money back for the fake teal city and found an authentic one. After my experience with the fake I am so excited to see a real one! I'll do my best to post pics during this busy week.

Another Balenciaga rip-off query... Has anyone known the apparel to be reproduced and sold as the real thing? I have seen items on Ebay, etc. with sometimes ridiculously low prices and had my doubts as to their authenticity. Any thoughts? Also what is New Woman Balenciaga?! I have also seen New Woman Alaia.
