The Books That Changed Your Life

The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath was such a haunting read, even more so because I could relate to the emotions and feelings she expressed. I only wish she wrote more novels.

^^ I liked Letters Home as the style of the books are very similar, but they are really just letters sent to her family by her. :flower: It's still a good read though. ^_^

Life of Pi...its the most amazing book i have ever read.

i had to read it for English class. and i agree it's really good. filled with symbolic meaning, you really have to engorss yourself in the novel.

Most of them have been mentioned but I love:

Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Doestoyevsky
The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins
....and anything by Bertrand Russell:heart:

Man's Search for Meaning by Elie Weisel
The Man Who Loved Only Numbers by Paul Hoffman
The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway
Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers
The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros

I have to say that Anne Frank's diary really got me think more about stuff...

Sophie's Choice by William Styron
The Jilting of Granny Weatherall by Katherine Anne-Porter (even though it's a short story)

^^ I've been meaning to start Fallen Angels. ^_^

It's very good! I don't remember it b/c that was about 3 years ago, but it's decent for a war novel.

The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls.
(Seriously, the mom is F'ed up!)

Haruki Murakami books
mainly 'Norwegian Wood', 'Sputnik Sweetheart' and 'Dance Dance Dance'

Man's Search for Meaning by Elie Weisel
The Man Who Loved Only Numbers by Paul Hoffman
The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway
Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers
The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros

Hey ... I'm reading The House on Mango Street right now ... would love to hear more about why it was important to you.

Dry by Augusten Burroughs I have problems with alcohol and this is the one book that has described it perfectly. I could relate to it. It basically laid it all out, honest and didn't make it out to be I found jesus and my life was saved.

i think all books change how you look at things in some way or another... it's like learning from another persons life that you can apply to yours.

i love the suggestions!
