The Brunette Hair Thread

^ im asian myself but its a hard question for me to answer since i have opposite undertones like more pink/neutral.

i think with my observations a rich chocolate brown(Daveigh Chase is one example) is hard to go wrong with generally. its deep but not overly dark or light and neutral enough to compliment many undertones. but of course all hair looks depends on the individual, facial features, style etc comes into play as well. depending on the person it can look very natural like they were born with that great color or very striking making their features pop more.

^ not a great photo for showing color but her hair was beautiful like that, very dark brown borderline black at times.

^yeah Im definitely going to go chocolate brown someday. I have burgundy hair right now and once my hair gets a little longer Im going to dye it brown.

the girl in #334 has an amazing hair/eye combo.

I actually have a question and I hope this is the right place to post it. For a couple months I've been dying my naturally blonde hair a medium brown and my last appt was last weekend but for some reason she didn't schedule me for a cut and color just a cut. What's the best drugstore brand for covering my roots until I go back in six weeks? And how do I match the color corrrectly? ughh thanks in advance

whats a good brown, chocolate/ golden color that would look good on my tan skin and brown eyes.
my virgin hair is black and I have an appointment in 2 days for a color job.

Blonde to Brunette
(^photos of me blonde in the Blonde Thread)

i asked my hairdresser for very dark brown nearly black. but both my hairdresser and i dont like black hair dye. that stuff is way too harsh looking and stubborn on/to me. knowing me i will most likely change my hair color in the future, i dont want to go through the damage of trying to lighten black hair dye.

i wanted a color darker than my natural hair color which is dark brown since i have the blonde base its going to fade fairly easily. im not going after a hair the needs maintanence cuz that equals lots of moolahlah. my reason for going back to brunette was the lack of doughboys($) to maintain blonde :(

before. a faded medium ash blonde dye, i had light ash blonde hair before that so it faded quickly.

this is me with only a filler in my hair, rinsed out and dryed to see if its all even. when my hairdresser and her assistant was applying the filler looked like deep reddish pink, it was kind of cool! it was a nice chocolate brown color, filler unlike a dye lacks shine so i was anxious to see a complete look.

fresh out of the salon. a very dark brown in person but photographing black. my hairdresser knows i dont like a lot of red in my hair, the brown she mixed had more gold so there is still warmth. i love Kristen Stewart with reddish brown hair on her but it doesnt do anything for me. if i want Red, i'll go completely red! that's how i am when i comes to hair and ive had Red before, twas fun. when i was Blonde i always prefered more ash tones...in the early stages of blonde i was strawberry blonde and golden blonde so ive had it and can say i prefer ash with my skintone.

well at least the dye is off of my scalp now  it photographs black still, i think its mainly lighting. i havent taken any in outdoor natural light yet and im excited to see what that will look like!

the flash/shine washed out a lot of the hair but here you can see some of the brown at the top. i love how my hairdresser used only one color but the way she strategically painted the dye on top of the filler to create dimension was so amazing. a play on light & dark.

Wow, Belowen, your hair shines like crazy! It looks very natural and really brings your eyes out. Beautiful! :crush:

kissablekae, your new brunette looks fabulous! I know, it was no easy change for you, but you're definitely one of those people who suit every hair colour. ^_^

^aww thank you mimi_belle!

i think ive been coping okay with the big change. had to adjust my makeup to be more suitable for a brunette.

kae Your face can definitely take any hair colour, and I think you are right in avoiding browns with red tones... This actually looks like your natural hair colour (even though I suspect that your natural hair colour is a bit lighter, no?)

hi ida!

yep my hair color is similar in a sense that its a very deep brown like in the pictures. but once my natural hair grows in its much lighter around the hairline so it ends up looking like i have a lot of new baby hairs. i also remember having lighter brown streaks at the temples! i hope when im older and graying i dont look i like the Bride of Frankenstein lol

i loved the natural looking highlights, the styling and the lil waves/random curls.

^ Oooh me too ^_^. To me that shade of brown epitomizes summer. I miss the days when I had sunkissed hair.

i was describing how my hair is lighter around the hair line with streaks at the temples a good example of this is

^I have those streaks too, and they just can't be coloured  The dye just doesn't stick to them...and they're 100% white

I have them too  Thankfully dye does stick to them, just not for a very long time :ninja:
