The Cover Challenge (PLEASE READ THE THREAD RULES IN POST #1)

I like the 'voting in this thread' idea. I don't see why it should get 'awkward'.

I haven't voted often in the past because it's a pain to vote via PM, tbqh. I expect to be voting more often now.

Voting in the thread could be positive or negative...in the past changes have been made to aid participation and nothing really changed, but we'll see. I think that, unless you don't have a life, it's pretty tough to keep up with the challenge every week...maybe if the first post was updated every so often it'd be easier.

Congrats to the winners! :flower: Looking forward to the new theme. :)

^^ i don't think is THAT hard to keep up with this thread if you're a regular in the Magazines forum or you're subscribed to it.. it actually moves pretty slow compared to other ones

i think that people just forget to vote, this thread usually gets lost in older pages during the voting days.. imo, getting it pinned on the first page would've helped to keep it always visible for the members but i guess this new way of voting will do something similar, i hope it works!

and thanks for the votes! :flower::innocent:

Could the person that posts the list - vogue28 usually - post the list as thumbnails or attachments? I think that would make voting much easier as well because I always find it quite time consuming to click on all the links and make my choice this way. IMO it would be easier if we had small previews of all the covers we can vote for in one post.

This thread is starting to become a nightmare, instead of the enjoyment it used to ooze.

Personally speaking, I don't find anything wrong with the list I compile. It's just as time consuming.. and it's not even required for the thread - just a gesture to encourage votes. Psylocke, the method you posted would be more time consuming as a simple hmtl link. There isn't that many covers to look back upon, maybe three pages.. and the list is always there at the end of the round.

At the end of the day, the rules are set - improved or not. It's down to the member to participate or not. Don't enter if you're finding the challenge hard to keep up with.

Guys, at the end of the day me and hfgl are trying to make it easier for you all to vote as we get abysmal results, so if you guys aren't happy either vote the usual way (via private message) or voting in the thread then come up with a better solution otherwise there isn't any point in the challenge and we could always just get rid of it if things don't pick up, simple!
And the list that vogue28 does is off his own back, that makes things much easier, so making it more complicated for him isn't fair, if he wishes to do so then that is his call but if i were him i wouldn't do it.
If I'm totally honest we can't win at all.

well how about setting new rules, whoever entered the challenge, they should be giving the votes, if he/she are not giving any votes, so his/her entries won't be valid. There's a lot of contestants and it such a shame that there were only few ppl to vote this round. So I guess with this kind of rule, the number or voters will be equal with the contestant or even more

I don't find anything wrong with it either, it was just a suggestion how I think the voting process could be improved and be made easier. I appreciate your effort in compiling the list a lot. I just find that if I have the time to vote - and I try to participate in the voting as often as possible because the people taking part in creating the covers do a wonderful job - I often have 10 tabs open with covers and I have to keep going back to the list to see if it's entry 1 or 2 and I'm not sure if I skipped one link and such. I thought copying the image codes instead of linking to the posts wouldn't make much of a difference when compiling the list. But anyways, maybe I'm the only person that sees this as something that could be improved.
I appreciate everyone's effort in keeping this challenge going and obviously some things have to change in order to motivate people to vote. Posting our votes in the thread instead of sending a PM sounds like a good change to me already.

^ i do the same thing but just because i like to see the covers separately and then narrow them down to the ones i like the most,
if you want to see them together maybe you should go back to see the previous pages which usually are just a few per round..
imo it's unnecessary to do the list with preview pics..

I understand what your saying and updating that list is down to me, but i am one of those people who has a life and its hard for me to keep up to date, i'll TRY and update it today.

Thank you to everyone who voted for mine. Myself and Lee MG Tisci have decided on a new theme:

The Hollywood Issue

Many publications use celebrities to guarantee sales. The aim of this round is the produce covers featuring actors and actresses of your choice. Prove that celebrities can cover magazines in an.. acceptable, fashionable manner. There's plenty of material on various sites, including the Fashion Spot. Good luck and enjoy the round.

Can't we just simplify the voting process.

ex:

1. (Post No.), (Entry No.)

It would be a lot easier. I believe that public voting will discourage many members.

^That is what HFGL and myself have been trying to say, you don't have to provide us with links, simple 1: chanelcouture09 : entry 2 that is all we needed.

btw brilliant theme guys!!!

^what´s the voting process then? PM or public? I´m lost lol

about the theme, I have a question: models turned entrepeneurs/actresses are considered celebrities? even if they rarely work as a model-model?

As in Gemma Ward and Amber Valletta? I'm afraid not.

No models turned actresses vice versa, for this round.

well interesting theme! bet there will be a lot of great entries this round

I have a lot of theories on why people are discouraged to both 1) enter, and 2) vote. (Maybe people don't want to vote for entries because it takes votes away from their own entries, for example. I'm not saying this is how I feel. When I enter, I vote.)

I would encourage the whole voting system/judging system to be revisited.

For example, the Avatar Library contest I think works very well.
1 person sets the theme, judges the entries, and picks the winner.
Winner sets the new theme, and so on.

It's the easiest contest to enter and judge, the vibe is so friendly and encouraging, and different people actually win each time. So there's fairness. Just my opinion. It's been so much fun (when I've had time, and when I haven't had time, the contest easily goes on with those who do.) I don't think people's feelings get offended because every "Winner" has their own unique taste. It's only up to one person who decides the winner, so if you don't win, what's the big deal? You could easily win the next round.

I think simplicity is key. The more complications, the more people are discouraged. For example, each voter picking a Top 3 might be cumbersome for some.
