The Cover Challenge (PLEASE READ THE THREAD RULES IN POST #1)

Entry #0

Had a concept, but quit halfway through.

A reimagined US Vogue anniversary issue (Sept 2012) with a selection
of limited covers with vintage layouts representing creative direction of
each decade in Vogue. The 2012 newsstand cover would have all of them
presented on a neat fold-out and it's all shot by Meisel, of course.

Not you winning your own challenge

Once again, the creativity within this very thread is astounding and far superior than that of those working for Condé Nast and Hearst. What another round of utterly stellar entries! I am rather intimidated to enter myself, as a result. Bravo!

So I was going to finish this after all, but only had inspiration to fill the pre-90s gaps. Please, treat this as a single entry!

Wow, and I mean WOW! At this point it is so hard to pick a favourite, because all of us have distinct styles and tastes, and you see it kind of... "that cover is so him/her", if you know what I mean. And all my favourite people participating (except @vogue28 , but we all love you anyway!) what a dream.

Let's start with the accolades, because i love them all deserve a good word!

@Paul Lintag , that first entry, Mamma Mia. I love Indya and this cover is truly a new beginning how it should've been, stellar. She deserves it. It is also quite difficult to find a cover-worthy shot of her (surprisingly). Also that Vogue Philippines entry! Can I commission a third cover there with Heart Evangelista?! Lovely!

@JPineapple , very modern cover, and Crystal Renn is always a great choice! Dear, what are you doing with that Anna Ewers entry? It is illegal to kill people, yet it was a direct shot into my heart! I will print that out and hang on a wall!

@Toni Ahlgren , Milla, Guinevere AND Lara? AND Divine?! You are totally a king of casting. Piergiorgio del Moro better watch for his job, because specifically that Divine choice, THAT was unexpected. TFS Magazine? Genius. If there are positions for Creative Director of Fashion Editor, where do I sign up? (Poop magazine, I laughed so hard, I mean that entry is for the times, so well thought through)

@cottonmouth13 , Vogue US going unapologetic and sl**ty, I am so all over this, amazing! Each entry is so fun to see, come back and see it again! Annie issue is a nice change of pace too, and those women together... I mean, Meryl, Nicole, Catherine, Cate, Chloe, Kate... If only any Vogue had 1/10 of the guts to assemble a cast like that together and do a similar issue these days (a little more diverse though)... We at TFS would probably die of ecstasy. And Anna by Meisel. Y'all know how I feel about Meisel. A classic never fails.

@VogueGirl8910 , both entries are so different, yet so sophisticated. Jac and Maryna, you will never see me complain about that. And then Daria and Vladimir... You always have this perfect grasp of nostalgia and all of your entries instantly bring me back to older times, it is a joy every time!

@Urban Stylin , that entry is so you and so poetically beautiful! I am glad someone has brought this shoot to justice. Magnolia is a captivating beauty, and to obscure her face on Vogue Australia was criminal! The last cover in B&W is truly a masterpiece, so simple yet so powerful. While I myself was never a fan of Bey, you have done a total justice to her as well, I wish we'd see her like this in magazines.

@0st3nd , this is what we all wish Vogue China would be. Leslie and Lina, a combo so strong that other editions are shaking. It also feels slightly Wong Kar-Wai, who is one of my personal favourites as well. These covers is so modern China, we should appoint you as an EIC! Both interesting to see and they bring fashion! Also, those Bazaar covers are reading Vogue to filth. Plus, we need more of Sui He and Shu Qi.

@Grayx , another time I feel that I was shot in my heart by the cover. Raquel and Meisel is a duo so holy that probably nobody on TFS would ever touch it. The shot itself has more emotion and joy to it than all the magazine covers of last 5 years combined. I have a soft spot for shots that you can tell models were having fun while making.

@aracic , I don't even know where to start with this much creativity and beauty stomping on me. The concept and the execution, oh dear! It reminds me of Visionare 49 Decades in the best possible way, and I cherish that issue so much too. I want to kiss all those covers and ask them to date me. And that Carolyn one is one of my personal favourite shots of all time, it is only legs, but the amount of skill it takes to take a shot like that and on location is astounding. I should print it on the cake and have it all with coffee, because I eat that damn cover up, it is so a-ma-zing!

@vogue28 , even without an entry we all know it'd be fantastic, because you always deliver! Every round I anticipate to be blessed by your entry and I assume a lot of us do!

@dontbeadrag , sweetie, try better next time, we are all so tired of your Vogue Italia and Meisel entries... Also, maybe cut it a bit from 50 covers to about 5...

And, after this wall of text that I copied about 40 times, because I was afraid I'd close the tab by accident...

The winner is @Urban Stylin ! These entries tie so well with all of your other covers, and you always teach us a lesson on how we can bring diversity and show black excellence to this challenge! I can tell each time it is so you and very personal as well, and there is nothing but big respect for that.

Just like any other tFS members here from the Philippines, I, too, have long wanted to see a Philippine edition of Vogue. And I am afraid it will not be possible anymore because of this consolidation thing that is rumored to take place.

Thank you! And congratulations to everyone for showing the editors yet again how to do their job.
On the same theme I want us to celebrate diversity and being one of the few TFSers from Africa I say we create a 'Vogue Africa' something Conde Nast has skipped despite some countries in Africa having major luxury and fashion industries. You can be inspired by the East, West, South, North or Central Africa plus the islands or even the diaspora and anything else that is worth being on the inaugural edition of Vogue Africa. You can also make it specific like Vogue Nigeria, South Africa etc if you like! Feel free to also source for content from the continent some sites like nataal magazine, africa is now magazine, wauzine etc have some exciting content.

Cant wait to enjoy your creations!
