Such a beautiful movie...like a painting w/a with a soundtrack & so full of emotion...that scene w/the 3 of them...if you've seen it...you know the one I mean...I'll definitely be going to see it again because this film is exactly what I need right now......

I don't know though, the trailer doesn't attract me at all - I saw the movie without knowing really anything about it...so if you don't like the preview, don't be put off - it's a really incredible film.

If someone tells you what this film is about it doesn't sound that appealing. But the way it's handled is really clever and it draws you in from the start by putting you in Jean-Do's head so you get to know what he's thinking and see what he sees. It's a good way to get you to overcome any prejudice you may feel as you don't see what he looks like almost until he does.

Also, the scene where he "speaks" on the phone to his house-bound father is brilliant.

For me, the feeling of being trapped was very powerful. It forced me to consider that issue, but it wasn't condescending in any way Its also very successful at showing how one action or event has consequences far wider than we imagine.

everyone was such a pleasure to look at
from matthieu (in his normal state, of course)
to emma de caunes as L'impératrice
even the little kids were all incredibly cute.

i'm surprised there is not more on here about the movie or jean do. considering he was the elle editor. i have tried to look on the internet for information about him, or even a picture. could anyone point me in the right direction? thanks

i agree. i just thought it was a french thing though. but yes jean do's father, his friend and the man that was held hostage for 4 years were all attractive, and the doctor etc. everyone was.

i would love to read the book....i thought the film was magnificent...i hate comparisons with films because it never does the film in question justice but having said that, i couldnt help but be reminded of the sea inside {mar adentro} when i watched this film, and i loved mar adentro completely too... i think the father in this film was absolutely brilliant, like someone said that scene over the phone broke my heart....the movie was so well done, incredibly sensitive, artistic and subtle. i loved it

I think this is one of the best movies I have ever seen. The cinematography and camera work is excellent. It is such a touching movie.
I don't think I have ever cried that much during a movie. Excellent!
