The Eyebrow Thread, all you need to know and ask about your arches

I have naturally black eyebrows and my hair is now red, how I can color them so they match better? I've tried lighting them with concealer and putting brown over, but it never looks right. I don't get my hair dyed at a salon anymore so I can't get them dyed.

What is the best way to find a good waxer?

I'm moving to a new area where I don't know anyone, and I need someone to help me shape my eyebrows. They've just recovered from a complete waxing disaster (never let your waxer be arguing on the phone with someone while they're doing your brows! :() and now I'm really paranoid about finding someone who won't mess them up again.
The only way I can think of is to ask someone who gets theres done in you area.

You'll have to bleach them. 'Jolen Creme Bleach' is quite popular, and easily accessible, so I'd try that.

Oooh i'd get down to a beautians and have it done pro. You don't want orange eyebrows!

eyebrow shaping/sculpting

I used to be a crazy overplucker. Several years ago I let them grow back in, but I have such a problem with them. The part closest to my nose wants to stick out in the opposite direction. I try to tame them, but they are still so demanding and want to do their own thing.

Does anyone have any ideas for a product that could coax them into staying in the correct direction without looking like I have wax on them?

:flower:

since castor oil makes eyebrows thicker, can i apply it to the area of my eyebrows that i plucked, which has no hair?,to speed up growth?

i dont like the look of powder or pencil on me.

MAC Brow Set in Show-Off
i wipe most of it off the wand with a tissue and just use the residue on brush to tint my brows

but since i keep going light and lighter with my hair i think im going to get Beguile or Girl Boy next.

too bad its not waterproof lol i wouldnt want to get caught in the rain with this stuff but i think it should be okay since i use very little.

i just got my eyebrows tinted to light brown, i lovee it! they use a semi-permanent dye so it will fade gradually too to blend as it grows.

i love not having to put any brow makeup on

okay so i think my eyebrows are dark and they are but not that dark.

they are a soft black and my hair heavily highlighted to a light ash blonde...so basically a big fat no no.

this is what ive dont before and ive decided this is the best option for me is to bleach my brows myself with Jolen then go to salon for semi-permanent tint, basically a brown tint but left on for the shortest amount of time possible like a couple/few mins. its semi-perm so it will fade gradually and my natural hairs blend as they grow.

well this time i thought okay they said they could bleach them for me too instead of me doing it(i talked to a hairdresser about this before). turns out im better at it then them because they just wanted to put dye on top to try to lighten. from past experience it didnt work and neither did it this time. the owner put on a brown dye on them making them darker and groucho like...i thought he was bleaching until they started turning brown and im like wtf guys nooooo. so then they put the base color that i have in my hair which is a superlight ash brown/dark ash blonde(im not sure but thats what it looks like to me) to lighten that mess and it ended up dark brown. good grief!

i ended up going home and putting on the bleach cream for 10 mins just to lift it a litle and it came out to match my base color perfectly. now im LUCKY because im self-sufficient and have a fair amount of fearless trial and error to learn from! but i just wanted to share that with you guys. hope it helps if you ever decide to lighten brows that you dont have to suffer from other people's mistakes! dont get me wrong i love everyone at the salon but they just are learning themselves, its not often that their clients lighten their brows...they usually just keep it dark(which can be kind of ew).

for my next touchup(every five weeks) ill just bleach myself the day before and then go in for touchups and schedule a brow tint for afterwards!

^ How long do you leave in the Jolen bleach regularly? Are you Asian (I ask because I've seen you around the Asian Eyes thread)? Because I am and your hair color sounds similar to mine but my brows are still my natural color and they look soo out of place with my hair. If you had a picture of your hair color on a model/celebrity you could post, I would love you forever :innocent:

* important note, always be careful with bleach etc. i know you must know that but still i just warn you because there is a client at the salon i go to who has colored/bleached her hair before and only recently has become allergic to it! the bleach will tingle slightly but follow your instincts and gut!

if your going from black to blonde brows it takes a while to bleach, i def kept checking every few mins. i want to say 15mins but im not sure. basically i wanted to get past the orange to dark yellowy blonde brows so i would have a good canvas for the tint. i didnt want to have orangey brown results. i just put on some brown brow gel so that i will look okay then go to salon for semi-permanent tint(make appt! i know my salon is always booked so i call a week or so in advance), my esthetician knows i dont want them too dark so she only leaves the tint on for aroud two mins max. so they came out a light brown(after washing face when i got home, of course when you leave the salon it will only be slightly darker cuz a lot of the dye will still be on there).

^ i think its harder that way and not completely fool proof if you havent done it before so i would recommend this :
because i think its safer to just have your hairdresser use the same color on your roots on your brows and then if it comes out too dark you can put a bit of bleach on and watch them, every few mins just gently scrape off the bleach(Jolene comes with a lil plastic tool to use) and if its not light enough then put it back on till you are satisfied. dont let them go orange because its NEVER a good look.

yes im Asian :)

tonigarrn-allure.jpg

this is a my scan of Toni Garrn from Allure that i bring in for my hairdresser, im almost there!

its so creepy to only look at eyes but here is my brow timeline!
* keep in mind that the indoor lighting distorts colors...as does sh*tty cameras(like mine haha). these came out more orangey or yellow than in real life.

^ this was when they were only lightened slightly with light ash brown(i think) hair dye by my former hairdresser, since my brows are soft black they barely budged! it was browner in person but in pix they were still greyish/black so i was like good grief!

November

this was just bleached myself and tinted with brow gel, i hate wearing makeup everyday and when i didnt wear brow gel i felt like i had no brows...which only works on Lara Stone, Yfke Strum, Dewi Driegen etc

unfortunately this is a grown out picture of my brow when i bleached completely then tinted with esthetician. so its kind of light brown mixed with my natural color. its hard to tell but i dont have any pictures from when i just got them done.

this is the dark blonde(i think) root color used on brows that came out too dark(it was the owners fault for using brown at first!) but lifted with Jolene creme for between 5-10 mins...it basically matches my roots exactly now yaeee

^ source : all pictures are of me by me!

^ Thanks so much! I never thought highlighted hair would require so much work . I love the shape of your eyebrows btw, I'm so jealous most Asians have very sparse/thin eyebrow hair.

^_^ thank you!

actually my sisters have more sparse eyebrows and lighter like soft greyish? i was always jealous because if they wanted to change their brow color, all they had to do fill it in with powder or pencil. they could even do blue or purple brows if they wanted! i could never fill in my brows because they were already so dense and dark. i have to go through this whole process with my brows to have harmony with my hair color! but its worth it fa sho!

My eyebrows are starting to grow! YAY! I've been wating for years, but they have just suddenly started growing a bit. I really hope that I don't have to fill them sometime in a not too distant future. My mom has full thick brows, and I don't have sh!t  :D I think I will dye them today and see how it looks...it's hard to see how much they have grown because they are blonde.

^Were they overtweezed or something? Because I was going to come here to ask how long it takes for eyebrow hairs to grow back and I read that you've been waiting for years. D:

I made my arch too high on my right eyebrow and I didn't realize how stupid it looked until I saw pictures of myself. Uggggggh. Maybe I really should start filling them in or something.

Stupid question: What is the difference between an eyebrow pencil and an eyebrow shadow? Which do you prefer and why? I'm asian with sparse eyebrows growing in all crazy directions. Any product recommendations for asian eyebrows?

this is my eye brow, its a bit thick, and dark but it works with the rest of my face.

I think it depends on how much filling in you need. If you only have small areas with sparse hairs, then a pencil would be much more convenient to use. But if your eyebrows overall have very few hairs, a pencil would look too obvious and harsh, so a powder would look a lot more natural. But it takes more time and effort to apply than a pencil.

ClosetCupcake, that's not a stupid question at all. From my personal experience eyebrow pencils create a more defined, cleaner, and more dramatic look. At worst they can be waxy and fake looking. Eyebrow shadow is softer and can be more subtle than the liner, but can also be just as defined as a pencil if you wet the brush/shadow prior to filling in your eyebrows. For me it's not either or, it depends more on the product/brand. At the moment I use both (seperately), the first is an eyebrow shadow by Urban Decay, which comes with two eyebrow colors, a brush, wax, and mini emergency tweezers. The second is a cheapo dual eyebrow pencil and brow gel which I got at Walgreens, and it is wonderful.
