The Face Thread, the Q's and A's about Foundations, Primers, Powders...

i just discovered the new Pro Lumiere Professional Finish Makeup by Chanel, and i love it! its even better than the Double Perfection Fluid which i was always using before......it covers really everything, and makes your skin look really even and radiant.

What do you think is better: to use a heavier foundation for combination/oily T-zone- skin, or to use a light one, but followed with loose powder or compact?

I think both will work well and look good, I guess it depends on the amount of coverage you´re after. I definitely prefer some coverage, but not too heavy. The YSL foundation is the most natural-looking long lasting foundation I´ve tried.

I agree, it really depends on how much coverage you're looking for. I use a concealor, a medium coverage founation and loose powder for my oily skin

I've tried Armani and Helena Rubenstein Double Agent and these are pretty good...I used Mac Studio Fix before that and it wasn't too impressive. Right now I'm using Chanel and it works. My major problem is finding the right shade.

I was just wondering about powder. Can you wear it on its on or do you need to where foundation with it? What exactly is it for?

You can use powder either to fix foundation/concealer, or on it´s own to matify and uniform the colour of your face.

There are also powders that are heavy on pigment that work just like foundation.

i have super dry skin and redness sometimes , when i put on foudnation it just seems to draw more attention to the redness since its bumpy, its pissing me off and like since i have dry skin foundatkon looks cakey on me and i use laura mercier's primer. =S id ont know does anyone know a foundation that will last long and looks natural not heavy? like with a radiant glow?
i hate it when in the morning it looks perfect than in the afternoon its like so differnt :(

don´t know ´cause i´ve never used mac´s powder. But i find clinique´s better than kryolan for instance.

I have a real problem with foundation-I use Chanel liquid, and I used to use MAC studio fix, but I have this thing where it seems to just fall off from the time I leave my house to the time that I get to where I was meant to go-it sort of looks like it's all rubbed off and there's just a slight layer of it left which then doesn't cover that much when i get to uni/the shops/a party. Usually the London cold wind is rushing past my face, and I think it could be that. What product do I use to make foundation stay put? Is it primer?

I find that laura mercier loose transluscent powder applied over any foundation helps it stay put all day-do you guys have any good recommendations for nasty scars? i currently use laura mercier secret camouflage..

Sofialuv, what is your suggestion for Clinique foundation+powder for combination/oily skin. The strange thing with me is that I look much better with less camouflage, although I do have things to cover. For example I use only The Perfectly Real make up, and I find it heavy for my face, (the heavier foundation, the oilier my skin becomes). What do you think..What should I try next? I was thinking Superbalanced make up followed with Gentle Light Powder, or Blended Face Powder?? Need some expert help?

I don´t know much about clinique´s foundations, but i have tried and liked the Superfit (that is suitable for oily skin because it´s oil free).

Superbalanced is a maximum cover foundation, so if you like lighter foundations is not really the best choice. ;)

As for powder i would choose the blendable powder and not gentle light, as the gentle light is kind of glowy and if your skin is oily maybe a glow powder is not really what you are looking for.

Anyway, go to a clinique´s counter and ask for samples, they are really the best way to see what is best for you :)

If your skin is that dry, I would use Bobbi Brown Extra tinted Balm or the Lancome equivalent that's like $55 (forgot the name) and use concealer for any marks and dark spots

While your make up is important, good skin and a good skin care regimen is the key to achieving that smooth, natural look. If your skin is dry, maybe your cleanser is too drying or you need a heavier moisturizer? I would suggest sorting out your skin care first, then look at your foundation :flower:
