The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

I just saw this movie and thought it was really good. I haven't read the books or seen the Swedish versions but I thought the film can stand alone well (like you don't have to read the books in order to understand, it wasn't confusing or anything). But just judging by pictures/stills, I think Rooney's look was better than Noomi's. Rooney's Lisbeth looked vulnerable and small at times in the film and I could see why that creep (forgot his name) thought he could take advantage of her but Noomi's Lisbeth looked more tough, like someone you wouldn't want to mess with.

I actually really liked the moody tone of the film, it's a film about a murder and involves r*pe and assault, dark and gloomy suits it perfectly! It was beautifully filmed and scored, especially the title sequence. I think that was the best title sequence I have seen all year.

I´m glad to hear this, I thought the swedish film lacked that... even the original title of the book is gloomy. TGWTDT sounds so glam and cool

So I'm hearing Dragon Tattoo is a flop in the box office. Everybody watch it!

so loving the 'glamour' scene in girl with the dragon tattoo. Was so great to see her made up, rocking heels and blonde hair. Displayed her beauty perfectly - it had been so hidden throughout most of the film.

It's a bummer to hear TGWTDT didn't do very well. That significantly lowers the chance of a sequel. :(

^but in many countries it hasn´t opened yet, maybe the worldwide gross will be enough to guarantee a sequel. At least I hope so :)

^Unless it knocks it out of the park overseas (which I don't think it will), it probably won't be that profitable. I don't understand what they were thinking doing a film like this with a 100 mil+ budget, and that's excluding the cost of posters and advertisements, knowing it would be rated R.

And one has to keep in mind that as the weeks pass, the studios usually receive a much less percentage of the total theatrical income, that's why opening weekend numbers are very important for releases like this one.

But then again, they might be fully aware of this and seeing this as an investment by raising awareness to the franchise, counting on luring in resulting viewers with the DVDs and good word of mouth, and then finally profiting from the sequels. Like a long term investment.

All in all, the following weeks will be crucial for it, it already has a good word of mouth so the prospects aren't all that dark.

ETA: I noticed there was a TON of product placements in the film. More than usual so I wonder how much money they managed to get for that? I mean, SONY have to have been paid a decent sum for them to feature almost only Mac computers when they could have taken the opportunity to promote their own brand of computers.

Since the movie has been out for over a week is it okay to write a review with spoilers? Let me know because I would love to write my review since I'm one of the few here that really enjoyed it.

i still havent seen it. But its still not too late. We just need to support and go watch it!

Honestly guys, we need to support the work that has been in this. I mean, Chipmunks is doing better than it...

Write your review, but change the font colour to white for the parts with spoilers!^_^

I still have not seen the movie, but I have been reading a lot of reviews. I'm interested to read more from the perspective of people who actually liked the movie.

I will just start out by letting you know that I just watched both the Swedish adaptation and the US adaptation. I have not read any of the books yet but I watched both of them with my friend who is a diehard fan of the books. I will be reading them eventually. I’m the type that likes to watch the movie first because I have a hard time watching movies about books I love. I usually will pick it apart and it is not enjoyable for me.

  • I much prefer Rooney over Noomi. I know this is not a popular opinion. I felt that Noomi was wearing a goth costume and it did not feel natural to me. Her acting was good, but I was distracted the whole time. I would not be surprised if Rooney wins an Oscar for her role. She played Lisbeth a lot differently than Noomi. I felt Rooney was more subtle and gave a more layered performance
  • I had issues with Daniel’s accent, but you can tell why Daniel is more of successful actor. He has a natural charisma that was missing with Michael’s performance. You can see why women flocked to Mikael with Daniel’s portrayal.
  • The film score was just perfection. The title sequence and title song “immigrant song” was a stroke of genius, Rezner and Fitcher complement each other so well. I think I will buy the soundtrack.

What I loved about the Swedish version.

  • *The mugging attempt scene was more realistic. I don’t know how it is handled in the book, but it was too much with her sliding down the escalators and just making in time on the subway.
  • The portrayal of Nils (her new guardian).spoilers In the American version, they had him stating that he was sorry for what he did to Lisbeth, which is totally unbelievable.
  • more spoilersI loved that they showed Harriet in Australia at the end. I really don't like how they explained in the Fincher version.
  • I much preferred they way they handled them researching the other murders. I understand they did not have time to show it all, but it didn't make sense that she would do it alone.

What I loved about the American Version
  • The Mikael & Erika relationship. The Swedish version barely showed her. Not to mention they completely ignored his relationship with his daugher
  • The whole cat sequence which was completely excluded from the Swedish verison. After seeing both movies, I don't understand why they decided not to show it. I think it really showed a different side of Mikael. It also showed how brutal Martin really was and that he had all of the typical serial killer characteristics.
  • I love when movies stick closely to the books. I felt the ending of Fincher's was much better. I do prefer them to stick closely to the books.
  • The hacking scenes were 1000x more realistic. I have friends that are ex-hackers.
  • Stellan Skarsgård was absolutely amazing. He always does an outstanding job as a villian. The acting all around was much better.

I think I will just stop here. I could go on for a really long time. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone. I would however warn them of the brutality , because I don't think anyone should go into the series without knowing about it.

Please, could you tell me how much screen time Robin Wright has as Erika Berger? thanks a lot in advance

I'm surprised to hear that it's a flop, I went tonight and it was completely sold out with a huge line. So it's popular here at least I guess.

I wasn't a fan of the Swedish version, it simply wasn't engaging enough so I did prefer Fincher's film. And I swear Daniel Craig was who I saw in my head when I read the books, he is perfect for the role (well, ok so the accent wasn't perfect...)

I want to preface this by saying I haven't read the books or seen the Swedish version of the film.

I saw the movie recently and loved it. After I left the theaters I was kind of ambivalent to the movie, but afterwards I kept finding myself thinking more and more about the film. For me, this is a sign of a great film because it keeps you captivated long after you've seen the end.

In terms of the actual movie, I really liked it. There were dull moments. But the intense moments left me . I think some of the intense scenes with Lisbeth could have been left out because they didn't add anything to the storyline but oh well.

I liked how the movie expressed how being afraid of being impolite outweighs so many other rational feelings. It was a great explanation to why so many of us do things we shouldn't do (but carry out because we don't want to be rude).

If anyone has read this far down, I hope this trilogy will be completed. I think one of the main factors as to why attendance has been so low is because of the release date. Not many people want to watch a movie this depressing during their holiday break. $40 million dollars worth of us were willing to watch it, but not many more.

Anyways after many paragraphs, I really enjoyed the movie and I hope more people watch the movie so that the trilogy can be continued with Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara. :)

A lot! About as much as the character has in the books. Erika is basically a main character in the books, so it was nice to see that portrayed in Fincher's version.

that article is interesting because i noticed, even not having seen the original movie or reading the series that she seemed awfully comfortable being so sexual with such a troubled mind. I thought that the sex scenes came off a little not-believable. I never imagined sex with this character to have such a euphoria-like mood to it.

Saw the movie tonight.........because it was New Year's eve, there weren't a lot of people (about 10 or so). Anyhow, I enjoyed it. My husband (who is Swedish) saw the original and liked this one also.
