Kou, good for you. Don't let those SA's talk you into anything you aren't ready for. Also, I'm glad you are branching out into other colors. If I were to get a birkin, which now I will start dreaming about, it will definitely be a 35cm box leather in indigo   .

gigi, you just can't go into buying bags, jewelry, etc., thinking of resale value. What's of value to me might make other people laugh and think I'm insane  which I'm sure it could have been said a time or two behind my back ;).

I'll second the sentiment. It is just like jewelry. Don't buy it for investment/resale. Buy it because you love it and want to wear it.:flower:

Jane I hear you BIG time on that one!!! (I LOVE jewelry )

I have never seen a leather bag in an airport shop. I would never expect to find a Kelly/Birkin. Believe me, I look even though I know it is fruitless.

HiHeels, the only "leather" bag that I've seen in the airport shop is a Garden Party. Others are usually the canvas Garden Partys & tote bags.

I once asked the SA in an airport shop & I was told that Hermes usually don't stock leather bags in their airport shops  But just like Jane, I will still look when I'm at duty free shopping

Resale of hermes bags

I was just reading the posts about everybody's views regarding the 'investment' value of hermes bags.

In my case, I regard those bags to have investment value so as to assuage my conscience whenever I throw in my money for a buy

ALso, as compared to throwing my money into other brands, I still think Hermes is worth the money. At least you get something back when you sell an hermes bag. Other brands don't have such good resale value.
That thought stops me from buying fad bags !! There's nothing worse than buying a fad bag that lasts 2 years and becomes passe ...

This is an interesting discussion. I consider my hermes bags to be an investment not because of resale, but because of longevity. It doesn't make much sense to me to spend 1k-2k on a bag that will be "out" in two years time. I realize that there are less expensive non it-bag options, but if you like high quality designer goods, nothing beats hermes. The cost per wearing of an hermes bag goes down considerably as the years go by, especially since these bags are built to last.
At least this is the excuse I'm using these days:lol:

thank you gigi. "usually" isn't the same as "never", right?! i will do tFS proud and be sure to do the right thing and check. :p

cameo - i second that. an hermes bag pays for itself every time you use it.

ladies,

loving the discussion about investment value for hermes bags. i wholeheartedly agree with your above sentiments. it's totally the value of the bag to the owner and i too believe the lasting value of hermes is due in large part to the loyalty of its bags' owners and the quality of the items :flower:

i've also angsted about ordering my first hermes bag as well, balbabe, and i've got butterflies in my stomach also, but hearing the testimonials from the ladies on the tfs board have really helped assuage them quite a bit :)

Sorry if these have been posted, but I just    these runway pics of Orange/Potiron Kellys! They look like 25cm, 28cm & 32cm :flower:

wow, is there that much of a size difference between the 28 and the 32? the 25 cm looks rigid, and the other one looks supple, so i as wondering if they could both be 25?
thank you for posting those pics - what a treat.

can any one venture a guess for the size of this shy bag? thanks.

As a non-Hermes bag owner who aspires to acquire one within a year, this is the philosophy I am following. I couldn't have said it better myself. Also, Katyc's statement that " In my case, I regard those bags to have investment value so as to assuage my conscience whenever I throw in my money for a buy " made me laugh. I'm trying SO hard to not waste precious $$ on the latest thing just so that I can save for that Kelly, I just know it's going to feel like a sucker-punch when I finally pay for it. In that case, I'll have to remember my SO's calling me "frugal" recently which made me burst out laughing - because I do love those high-end shoes, etc. Then I was reminded that it really means getting your money's worth and getting value out of your purchases. In this case, if you love it and use it...it is definitely worth it to you.

Yes on the longevity. I just had to get the handle fixed a a Tod's bag:woot: I was shocked that it tore as they are well made bags and I am a careful person. I am getting tired of all the latest "it" bags at 2-3K. Why bother when the timeless is available at a bit more. The "it" bags date you to year/season. Anyone trying to keep up with LV and the zillion bags they throw at you each year?

As a handbag addict of many years standing, I can tell you that when I considered (for 5 minutes) the concept of selling off some of my designer bags, I was shocked. The resale prices laughable:woot: I decided that it didn't warrant selling them and they would have more value as an overall collection. Yes, I am probably fooling myself on that one, but it is a nice concept. Why sell an original Falchi Buffalo bag for $10? I'll put the lot in storage before I do that!

BTW, one of the magazines did a list of luxury items with amortization of each and of course Hermes was included:flower:

From what you have stated in the past, I would guess that the 28cm would be too small for you to use on a daily basis. I think the 32cm holds quite a bit especially in souple. :flower:

Porosus vs. Niloticus

Hello ladies! Can someone tell me the difference between niloticus vs. porosus in terms of appearance? Someone said the porosus has smaller scale, is that true or is it a misinfo?

Also, does anyone know whether that Rouge H Croc Birkin SJP's character in SATC carry is a porosus or niloticus? Also, what type of croc is Kate Hudson's character carrying in "Le Divorce"? I know hers was a 28cm Kelly but I cannot tell what type of croc.

Thanks in advance!:flower:

FYI, I passed up a beige Constance at the airport in Hong Kong on Tuesday. It was beautiful, but I only had a few minutes to decide, and the gold H seemed so loud to me. The SA told me that they didn't carry the Kelly or the Birkin at that shop.

Also, I wanted to share with everyone that the Hermes in Siam Paragon in Bangkok is now open. It is HUGE. I snagged a bracelet with charms of most of the Hermes bags from the other Hermes in Bangkok a couple of weeks ago.

Thank you Cinderbellas! Your post gives us hope!!! :D

I think I've seen the Hermes bags charm bracelet that you're talking about...it's very pretty & has like 7 charms of different Hermes bags on a bracelet right ? :)

cinderbellas - you are making me very excited. and i love that charm bracelet. i didn't know they still made it - i thought it was a vintage item (i've seen it in a magazine, in the california-focussed "C" i believe, a few months back, identified as vintage). so glad to know it's still around. very cute.
