Donald Sutherland, as President Snow, looks perfect. He looks like how I imagined Snow would look like... older, grand and imposing. And I'm sure that Sutherland has played the character perfectly because he's such a good actor. Sutherland was on the show Commander in Chief and he played a character sort of similar to President Snow, very controlling and influential, and boy was his character scary! I definitely think they did the right thing casting a bunch of well respected actors (Donald Sutherland, Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson, etc.) to balance out the newer actors.

I really wish they would make the film 18 and over because it has so much violence, really. The whole books is about the fight to the death. But unfortunately because of it's young audience the movie won't be really violent, but probably focus lots on Peeta-Katniss-Gale.... I'm still going to see it on the first day it's out!

^^ I think Malcolm McDowell would have been a better choice as President Snow. He is scary only by the look of him, instead, Donald looks like a good guy to me, just like some extravagant grandpa.

I truly have faith in the special effects for this film. Something tells me the dress will blow us away.

Looks that way :D Judging from the lake and forests, at least...

It could always be arena for last year's games, if the rumours about movie opening are true.

Still very excited for the movie! also excited about the soundtrack! love the fact that Birdy will be on it.

Only thing i dislike about the movie so far, and the only disappointment is Gale. Sorry i just can't seem to agree with Liam Hemsworth as Gale. Just imagined him so totally different than Liam. But yeah, maybe he'll be able to make it right somehow.

Me too. I imagined Gale completely differently with a darker skin tone and almost shoulder length dark, straight hair. Not sure why! I'm sure that Liam Hemsworth will do an incredible job, though. The casting of Peeta and Katniss is perfect, though. Warming to Cato because I pictured him completely differently.

It's really sad that they cut Madge but I can't wait for this film. It's going to be interesting to see how they show the violence because the novel is very, very gory. Can't wait to see it!

^Wow! Look at the painting skills Peeta has (or should I say, the makeup artist has)! It's actually creepy how realistic it looks in the photograph.

As far as being a record-breaking box office champ is concerned, it looks like the odds are already in The Hunger Games‘ favor.

Advanced tickets went on sale for the hotly anticipated release and already the film is showing impressive numbers a month before it even hits theaters. On Wednesday, the day advance tickets went on sale to the eager public, Fandango reported that The Hunger Games accounted for 83 percent of the site’s totals. In fact, sales were so high, the movie has already trumped another beloved adaptation: The Twilight Saga. The Hunger Games toppled Eclipse for Fandango’s top first-day advanced ticket seller, previously set on May 14, 2010.

According to a statement from Fandango, not only does The Hunger Games already have hundreds of showtimes sold out across the country, but the Feb. 22 first-day ticket sales broke a record for their site. Rick Butler, the Executive Vice President and General Manager of Fandango, stated, “The Hunger Games is off to a fantastic start. Yesterday we saw the biggest first day advance ticket sales in our company’s nearly 12-year history – which is especially impressive for a March release and a non-sequel.”

Fandango’s Harry Medved concurs, “Even in the fact of big openers like Act of Valor and Tyler Perry’s Good Deeds, the advance ticket sales for The Hunger Games are still going strong. According to a Fandango poll, it’s the most anticipated new franchise of the year.”

The Hunger Games opens on March 23.

^I'm so excited to hear that THG's is doing so well... and it hasn't even been released yet! It's going to be interesting to see how much it grosses at the end of the weekend and at the end of it's box-office run. Certainly going to break some more records I'm guessing. I've yet to get my tickets for the movie but I'm hoping to get them sometime this week. I really hope they aren't sold out yet!

One of our admins, Gabby, got her hands on a copy of the Us Weekly special Hunger Games edition magazine, which isn’t due out until March 2nd. While scouring it (which she did immediately!), Gabby discovered some interesting details about how the book was translated to film and lots of inside scoop from the cast and crew.

Here are her favorite things she learned:

New quotes from Donald Sutherland - He talks about President Snow’s white rose (“even as his people starve, roses remain his only passion”) and Katniss (“Katniss is like Joan of Arc. She has a purity, yet she knows more than anyone else what’s at stake.”)
Special Capitol meals – Since Woody Harrelson is a raw vegan, the food stylist made veggie sausages and pates for him to eat during the extravagant meal scenes.
Tribute interviews – The tributes ad-libbed their pre-Game interviews. They were told “Here’s your emotional objective – improvise!”
Changes to Capitol flare – Green skin color and catlike plastic surgery didn’t translate well, so with Suzanne Collins’ blessing, they drew from Japanese kabuki instead.
Jennifer Lawrence & Josh Hutcherson’s relationship – Jennifer and Josh’s chemistry was so much like brother and sister, Gary Ross had to say, “Guys be attracted to each other.”
Jennifer talks about Josh – Josh was Jennifer’s rock; lunch would be like a therapy session for her. She says he is a great listener.
Real or not real weapons – The training center had real weapons (spears, swords, etc), but when the Tributes would fight or spar, they used rubber versions.
Jennifer’s bow and arrow – Jennifer had more than 100 arrows in her quiver for filming, but ran low in the end. They had to go into the woods to find them to restock her quiver!
Set design – The cornucopia took 10 weeks to build! Production designer Phil Messina said he is quite proud of the arena, “We built fake limbs and even fake trees” to make the forest denser.
On-set antics – When the cameras weren’t rolling the cast goofed around a lot – spontaneous raps and dances were common. Dayo Okeniyi said, “Neyo’s ‘Tonight’ became our anthem!” Jacqueline Emerson also said, “Someone always had their iPod with them. Or we would play Frisbee or games like Concentration. It was never boring!”
No mementos for the cast – They weren’t allowed to take any props from set as keepsakes. Dayo said, “They watched us like hawks with every single prop.”
And the biggie …

Finding Finnick – Gary Ross said he and Suzanne Collins are already thinking about casting for Catching Fire. Gary teased saying, “I already decided who I want!” for Finnick Odair.
