The Hunger Games Thread

I saw it yesterday. Absolutely amazing!

There are some minor changes and I missed some details but I understand that you cannot show every single thing.

I will definitely watch it again!

video from the Berlin premiere

also, i'm sure we've talked about this before and i just forgot...but why does Katniss give Prim the pin in this trailer?

I really need to watch the movie again. It made me feel so many different emotions from joy to sadness.

Why does Katniss give Prim the pin in this trailer?

Spoiler: Katniss gets it for her as a present and then Prim gives it back to her to protect her. That is one of the minor changes in the movie. I guess in the end it is not that important how she got it in the movie as long as she got it at all.

^ so no Madge in the movie?

And did they call it "Die Tribute von Panem" in german?? Horrible translation.

And they looked really great at Berlin Premiere, Jen is stunner as well as Elizabeth.

Ah...yet another magnificent example of translation from my german friends. I have no idea why movie and book titles are ALWAYS translated horribly...

^haha, yep, have to agree that some movies' names are horrible traslated in german, I wonder how are they going to call the second and third movie.

don't even get me started on bad translations...btw "Die Tribute von Panem(the tributes of Panem" is just the main title for all of them (the books at least) - book one is called "DTVP - Tödliche Spiele(deadly/mortal/lethal games)", book two "DTVP - Gefährliche Liebe(dangerous love)" and book three "DTVP - Flammender Zorn(flaming wrath)"

but nothing beats the terrible translations of the Game of Thrones books though, they even translated the names and stuff...that's why i read all book in English, translations always ruin everything. i will go to the English cinema in my town to watch this movie, not wasting my money on the crappy dubbing (although it doesn't seem so bad in the trailer)

sorry, this is such a boring post:lol:

Yeah, no Madge.

They screened the movie in English with German sub-titles but I didn't really pay attention to the sub-titles.

It was confirmed early on that they got rid of Madge, the Avox girl Lavinia and reduced the role of the prep team.

I wish they left in madge, just because of the significance it takes in Catching Fire, but I guess it isn't the worst thing to remove

No Madge and no Lavinia? it seems they want to get rid of all scabrous details in the story to make another....twilight!! suitable for teen people. This doesn't look good. I wonder if they have turned an adult story played by teens into a teen story played by adults.

Ugh, people, relax. This isn't the book, if each and every minor character was included, you would be complaining that the film is too long, boring, irrelevant and whatnot. I like that they chose to explore other characters more- e.g. Foxface, Glimmer, Cato etc.

The cast will be promoting quite a lot on telly this week:
Tonight (3/20):
Jennifer Lawrence on Letterman
Wednesday (3/21):
Josh Hutcherson on Letterman
Elizabeth Banks on Ellen and Craig Ferguson
Jennifer Lawrence on Fallon
Thursday (3/22):
Jennifer Lawrence on Chelsea Lately
Friday (3/23):
Liam Hemsworth on Ellen
Monday (3/26):
Woody Harrelson on The View Elizabeth Banks on Leno
Thursday (3/29):
Liam Hemsworth on Leno

The film is approved for general audience, no ? This means they had to cut some of the hardcore scenes anyway. TBH I am grateful for it because I felt that some scenes were a little over the top in terms of cruelty in the book.

Lainey posted her review of the film, which can be read in its entirety here

I was looking forward to her review because she's such a big fan of the series - in general, she seems very positive about the film. Just less so about Josh's ability to be a convincing romantic interest to Katniss, especially given Liam Hemsworth as Gale. While I think that was always a concern, thus far I've liked what I've seen in the trailers. And I think the good thing with Josh is that he will continue to mature physically as the filming continues (whereas Jennifer is likely to look similar) so I think any issues there can be overcome.

I'm excited though! Can't wait until Friday :woot:

So what does everyone think of THG's soundtrack? I for one really like it. The soundtrack has a good mixture of artists, genre's and tempos. Still trying to decide what are my favorite songs though! I really like Come Away to The Water by Maroon 5, Safe & Sound by Taylor Swift, and Just A Game by Birdy. I think a lot of the songs are really haunting and beautiful. And I can see how they fit into THG's story.

^^The Maroon 5 and Birdy tracks were my faves, too, YoninahAliza. I love the Bluegrass feel of the soundtrack--enough to get a feel of place, but not so much that you're knocked over the head with it. Friday can't get here fast enough!
