I once tried that - a request for one copy of French Elle each week - and they kept writing my name in pen at the top of each issue. I know they were only trying to make sure it was reserved, but if I really wanted my name written on the front of a magazine every week, I'd become a celebrity.
As a schoolgirl, I once went to my local newsagents to ask them to restock the one issue of Vogue Paris that they'd stopped getting in. "There's no demand for it," I was told, even though I was specifically asking for it - not being demanding enough, it seems. I'm still bitter, it was around 1992, who knows what supermodel magic I missed with those issues?
