Goat.
It’s almost surreal to watch a film that doesn’t sugarcoat the traditional bravado, machismo strut of the fraternity lifestyle— nor does it present the fratboy image for a neutered, comedic effect, like in so many teen comedies.
This story stars Nick Jonas… As if he’s not adorable enough happily being the gay-bait popboy, here he’s a charismatic alpha male fratboy who’s hardly a Knight-in-shining-armor to girls— but with a heart of gold who’s openly loving and protective of his sensitive younger brother, still suffering from a traumatic event just the summer before pledging for his fraternity. If I didn’t sort of secretly stan for Nick Jonas the popboy (sorry, the music I can’t take), I’ll openly stan for him in this film. And he’s actually a decent actor.
I’ll always have a fondness for fratboys, and it’s actually refreshing to see a film that portrays one that’s a good human being, instead of the predictable douchebags that they’re usually portrayed as.
Good enough film.
