The Last Movie You Saw?

Stalker ... Admitting I just saw it for the first time right now lol. Anddd I feel quite related to it. Chile I know this will come up in therapy next week.

Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai on Sunday. Great movie. So bloody long though wow it was a 4 hour commitment. Hated the audience in the cinema though; they kept uncomfortably laughing at moments they didn't get due to a cultural disconnect and because of sheer stupidity.

Last night, The Substance. I LOVED it. Lots of plot-holes though. Still confused by Sue's capacity at handiwork and bodily strength. The ending made me laugh. So sudden, so silly but what a way to finish the film in a really absurd classic/old-school creature film kind of way. And the sound design. Great music, and so many wet succulent noises.

^ Oh and also I wonder if Demi's face in 2021 at the Fendi show has something to do with this movie. If so, that's kinda method and good for her.

I watched “Challengers”, a movie where, again, I think dear Zendaya was miscast. Lovely actress, sure, just don’t see her in a lot of the roles she’s in. Meh.

200 Cigarettes (1999), I really enjoyed it it's the perfect New Year's Eve movie and the costumes are 10/10

Nicotina (2003), it's so much fun
omg I had not thought about that movie in so long! can’t remember what it was about but I do remember it being fun!

The Apprentice (2024).. I only bothered because.. when everyone's oh so outspoken about politics, and will bankroll anything popular, but this film remained without distributors in the US for months, then I want to see it lol. It was surprisingly good! NY looks filthy and glamorous and cinematic, the way NY in the 70s is described by everyone that experienced it. Sebastian Stan is flawless as Donald Trump, from the candids when this was being filmed, I thought he'd enter parody territory but he lands the character exactly where it should be. It doesn't flatter him by presenting him as a villain or anti-hero, or as anti-establishment the way his more naive, blue-collar fanbase want to believe he is, but as the mundane, grotesque landlord from Queens desperate to dominate the New York elite but who somehow ends up only fully understanding and being fully understood by every well-known pig in the city (in the words of Roy, 'if you're indicted, you're invited').

Jeremy Strong did enter parody territory a bit but he is hilarious as Roy Cohn, now that's one great villain, outrageous and pure evil when needed and believable too as hurt and vulnerable.

Also loved that Maria Bakalova elevated Ivana a bit.. her style seems almost fun on screen (when in reality it was just so tacky..).

^^^ All addictions are the same: Designer brand addiction is very real. Just ask some TFSers.

Finally saw The Substance. I kinda feel like it was more about drug usage than beauty standards. The final act did have me ijbol

Ending was trash trolling like WTFfffffffff… It started so promising. But imagine Rick in the place of Demi’s Elizabeth— and Tyrone in place of Margaret’s Sue. Ending would be Rick/Tyrone birthing into the most try-hard monstro slop of Rick's recent designs. How awesome would that have been…:sigh:… And whenever Tyrone/Sue would become a tad confused/agitated, he’d make that face like in your profile thumb. I’d watch the fcuk out of that movie. Even more than old Gollum-looking Elizabeth running and moving so fast when she’s like 500yo, I cannot accept that Elizabeth only owns that sole Dick Tracy coat. As if.

(BTW, the ugly branding for The Substance kit look like Jake Paul’s gross branding for his energy drink trash LMFAO)

Her yolk-yellow coat was I think more symbolic than practical or realistic. Same with…. So much of the movie. But I loved that about it. I’ve seen criticism where people are like “it’s so unrealistic Sue would be a star through workout videos” like b!tch what part of the movie made you think realism was the aim? Sue also did a flawless bathroom renovation/expansion project start to finish, single-handedly, in a week. It’s not a plot hole, it’s just the movie’s logic.

^^^ People already selling replicas of that coat for cosplay. Elizabeth Sparkle is insta iconica.

So much style over the substance LOL Demi is so chic and the only Hollywood barbie I stan. Just something about her.

That hallway in her apartment went on forever and was a hotel floor hallway onto itself— not to mention how apparently there are hidden rooms abound just waiting to be discovered and renovated in a day.

The director’s first feature was better tho. In just 2 films, she's already cemented her signature-- like Hockneys come to life.

I watched The Omen (original version) and, the new prequel to it, The First Omen for some reason this weekend, and I'm finding myself soooo bothered by plot holes in these two films.

The Colour of Pomegranates (1969), loved it even if I hardly understood it - it felt like an experience rather than a narrative. And the visuals are incredible, like watching 'moving pictures' in the very real sense.

Agreed! The movie doesn't really need to be understood as it is more of a sensorial experience and a tribute to Armenian traditions and culture. Every frame is almost like a painting, it's hypnotic. I adore this film.

The music in this film never fails to scare the crap out of me, yet it is what makes it as terrifying as it is. I've watched horror films since I was a child, so I am not one to be easily scared, yet this one still does, besides Rec (the original Spanish film).

yeah I've never seen anything quite like it, it's so unique and beautiful and I cannot get over it.
