Finally saw
Elvis
. I love Baz' work but his last two films just didn't quite reach the same level of.. splendor, the way
Moulin Rouge and
Romeo & Juliet did for me, I remember being so entranced when I first watched them, with all the richness and exuberance, costumes colors and sounds.. and, happy to report
Elvis is up there with these two. Baz is one of the best story-tellers imo.. or more like, he tells these epic stories the way they should be told, with all these details, grandiose elements and a way of presenting context that is immersive, not just about informing the viewer, even when it's historical events or political debates.
I don't know why I had doubts about Austin (his smaller role in
Once Upon a Time was quite good) but he deserves all the hype, he's phenomenal.
Highly recommended for anyone who misses that kind of unapologetic decadence of fashion shows.. this ticks all the boxes (costumes, set design, colors).
