The Most You've Ever Spent On A Single Item?

Wow... And everyone I know thinks I'm bad for spending $200 on a sweater. It's hard for me to spend more than $100 on any single article of clothing, I couldn't imagine spending several thousand... Especially since I've grown up being taught that clothes and things like that aren't important. It's better to invest your money in something like the stock market or real-estate.

When I was younger, my family didn't have a lot of money. My parents could barely speak English and the only source of income we had was the stipend my dad received as a grad student. But we were happy. A lot happier than we are now, even though my dad has a good job and income now. I feel like it was because back then we made the most of what we had, and all the material things, while nice, didn't dominate our lives. Whereas now there's so much stress involving making more money and buying more things that we aren't really ever content with what we have. I feel like the world's become a place where enough never really is enough.

That said, I really do like clothes. Just being a college student, it's sometimes not plausible to spend so much. And I feel like I never really appreciate what I buy. Still, given the chance, I probably would spend $10000 on a article clothing. Not to say I wouldn't feel guilty about it though... Because it goes against everything I was raised to believe in. But at the same time, beautiful things really are what make me happy...
Ditto, the most I've spent iss..$130 on Doc Martens ( Christmas money) and when our house was sold my mum bought me a $150 Jacket

it was $1200AUS which is a little over $1000US?

I don't think I will regret buying it...it is HUGE and all out of leather afterall...that's not to say there's no guilt involved...it just means I won't buy the other items I don't actually need that I was planning on buying during this time of the year(sales), which makes me feel a whole lot better.

before that my most expensive puchases had been two issey miyake jacket/jumper at 500 each and I am reminded of how much I DON'T regret buying them everytime i wear them.

I think you can be a student and still be able to enjoy designer pieces responsibly, without it comprimising your quality of life. I find that I feel much better about buying very few, somtimes one or two pieces each season instead of a whole bunch of crap from any high street store which aren't that cheap anyway. This way I have a well edited wardrobe full of items that i appreciate and look forward to wearing rather than previously a wardrobe full of meh stuff that never really liked which makes me think i constantly "have nothing to wear". I mean, that bag was the single item of clothing i've bought in more than six months.

...having said that...I nearly blew another 1000 on a half price, full length margiela coat the other day, thanfully it was hot outside and I was reminded that I live in Sydney where it never gets below 10 C and how much i didn't need it! PHEW.

Right now, the most I've spent is $150 for a pair of jeans, but the 2007 MJ Stam Bag is calling my name...make it stop :(. I may have to revisit this post at some point.

I've always prided myself on buying more for less, but now I'm starting to realize that more expensive key pieces are much better than 10 items totalling $100.00. I blame this site! :)

A leather jacket by Dolce & Gabbana. To date, it's my most expensive item of clothing.

My recently husband bought me a $1600 YSL Bag.

I bought him a $1300 Panasonic Kieren-style bike frame. :flower:

I think the most I've spent on a single item for myself is $1200 for a MiuMiu bag.
Of course, that does not include jewelry. That's a little different.

for clothing and accessories so far, the max has been 330 for a pair of chloe shoes which i have only worn once.

approximately $200 or so plus tailoring cost on a Ralph Lauren suit. i've been a rabid sales hound and amassed a quality wardrobe at significant reduction. it helps that i oftentimes can find my size on deeply discounted merchandise...

Well, the great thing about being a teenager; I really don't have to buy expensive things for myself yet!

The most I've actually spent on myself is probably $25 for an Echo Red bag at TJ Maxx
Most spent on me in the last few years would be a $60 XOXO Homecoming dress

ETA: Despite my love of fashion, I've already decided; my first big check from whatever I go into is getting me a black Range Rover :brows:

They were both so worth it though. I've worn the coat for a good two winters, and the jeans I wear practically ever other day.

Chanel Reissue 227 Metallic Navy, 1890€ Horrible price - beautiful bag lol. I'm now on a self-imposed spending ban  but it's worth it and will save space at home...

They both have a timeless quality with some modern reinterpretation. I think they were worth the investment. Now I'm trying to move away from trying to save money for the sake of buying more, and looking towards putting forth $$$ to purchase quality pieces that have durability and style for years to come. There are a couple pieces I'm eyeing now...

True that! Not to mention, I can't think of much that I really need to buy right now. I once purchased a set of five Disneyland prints for $200, but other than that I only buy things for under $30.

I can't wait until I can get my hands on an Annual Pass to Disneyland, though. :brows:

Gosh my two most expensive things were probably getting my nostril pierced and my Joe's Jeans (that I got at Nordies Rack for less than half the retail). I don't pay any bills or anything but I don't make a whole lot of money so I like to have it on hand for various things.

my chanel original coco cabas in caviar for over 2000 :(
i never bought something that expensive before, the priciest handbag i ever bought was 1000$.
