The O.C.

I don't know if the director meant to do this, but at then end when Seth proposes to Summer, he is sitting in the most childish way. I thought that was good to show how they are really not ready to get married.

FOX Beaches 'The O.C.'
Popular soap will reach its conclusion on Feb. 22

After bursting onto the scene in an inferno of hype in the summer of 2003, FOX's teen soap "The O.C." will fade quietly into the sunset this February after four eventful seasons.

FOX made the not-so-surprising announcement of the demise of "The O.C." late Wednesday (Jan. 3) afternoon. Starting this Thursday, "The O.C." will begin a stream of new episodes culminating in the series finale on Thursday, Feb. 22.

The move was hardly unexpected given that FOX only ordered 16 "O.C." episodes this season, a major dip for a series that had delivered over-sized runs of 27, 24 and 25 episodes in its first three years. In addition, FOX held "The O.C." back for a November premiere and launched it in a brutal Thursday time period opposite "Grey's Anatomy" and "CSI," two of TV's most popular shows.

The results have been easy to observe. Through its first seven Thursday airings, "The O.C." has averaged fewer than 4.06 million viewers per episode, off from last year's 5.75 million per episode. Critical raves suggesting that the show's quality was at its highest point since the first season did little to bring viewers back to the fold.

Talking to Zap2it in October, the show's creator Josh Schwartz was practical about the potential end of the show's ride.

"Obviously it's out there," Schwartz said. "Definitely when you're in this time slot and you've only been ordered for 16 episodes, you're aware that that's a possibility. Right now, we're just focused on making these 16 episode as good as we can and we'll see what happens. We'll have an answer before we're done breaking the episodes."

With that answer finally known, Schwartz seems to have shifted gears from practical to philosophical in the network statement announcing the finale.

"'The O.C.' Season Four finale will also be the series finale. This feels like the best time to bring the show to its close," Schwartz says. "Thanks to the hard work of our cast, crew and writers, we have enjoyed our best season yet, and what better time to go out than creatively on top. It has been an amazing experience and a great run. For a certain audience, at a certain time, 'The O.C.' has meant something. For that we are grateful."

There had been limited speculation about moving the series over to The CW in some modified form, but ultimately producers felt it was better to end "The O.C." on a creative high note.

In its four years, "The O.C." helped kick-start the careers of young leads Benjamin McKenzie, Adam Brody, Mischa Barton and Rachel Bilson, while introducing a whole new generation to Peter Gallagher and his eyebrows. The show won Teen Choice Awards by the barrel, was nominated for a Television Critics Association award for outstanding new show and even earned Schwartz a Writers Guild of America nod for scripting the pilot.

Its for real this time. Rumor has it that the CW might pick it up.

wahhh!!! I just read it on comcast's site! :(  Just as it was starting to get good again! I'm telling you, they should've moved it to a different night!!! Well, heres hoping CW does pick it up!

OH MY GOD!!! I'VE JUST READ IT ON WIKIPEDIA RIGHT NOW!!! Oh my God!! I don't believe it!! This sucks!!!

It wasn't very bright to put it on a Thursday though... I still can't believe it. It's breaking my heart... :(

Well, heres hoping CW does pick it up!
I really sincerely hope so! The CW isn't doing very well and maybe they do need this show!!! :(

^ From what I understand, the CW is doing pretty well. For example, there are shows on ABC that get cancelled because they only average 6 million viewers an episode..on the CW, that's considered a hit. Apparently, One Tree Hill, America's Next Top Model and Gilmore Girls are some of the shows that do really well for the network.

My only worry with the OC moving to the CW is the which show they would bump off for it. The OC does fit in better with that network since all of those shows target young adults, but thery already have a full line-up...so that worries me. AS much as I like The OC, I would be really upset if Veronica Mars or Gilmore Girls got cancelled and it got put in it's place. (Although, I've heard that this will likely be the last season for Girlmore Girls anyway...plus they have that Sunday line up that has Reba and 7th Heaven, which is an odd mix, but maybe they could shuffle stuff around...I think 7th Heaven is done after this season as well.. :ermm: )

Pick up the OC, CW...Just don't cancel one of my faves

What sucks is that, I think alot of people gave up on The OC after Mischa Barton left. They didn't even give it a chance, which is sad, since I think it has gotten alot better. No offense to Mischa. I really have nothing against her, but I think that they relied to much on her character too much at times and the storylines just became redundant. I mean, how many times do we have to see some guy fall in love with Marisa, so much so that he goes crazy and then have that story end with either him leaving town or dying...it just got to be too much, and was one of the reasons I stopped watching the show last season. We get it...she has some sort of crazy potion that makes everyone fall in love with her and go crazy...next story

Like I said, it's too bad people didn't give it a chance because this season has been great so far.

Here's an idea....

Marisa comes back from the dead...because she was never really dead....her family decided that Volchuks obsession with her was too much...she woke up from a coma after the accident and they sent her away to live on her father's boat. Everyone agrees that she should come back to the OC. She's so excited to see Ryan....

Except Ryan may not feel the same way...instead...he has decided to have a double wedding with Seth and Summer...he proposes to Taylor, who is so excited...that is...until she thinks she sees Marisa.

Marisa finds out about the engagement and decided that she would rather have Ryan happy with Taylor and is sad, so she decided to go for a walk on the beach. A guy walking his dog sees her and decides that he is in love with her. Marisa says "Hello" and he offers to give her everything she has ever dreamed about....she tells him no and they guy goes psyco...drinking his sorrows away....how will he ever get over MARISA COOPER....or as he called her "Girl who wore Marc Jacobs to the beach"

Marisa decides that she never really liked Taylor after the whole incident when she got kicked out of school and decides to crash the wedding. Ryan looks into her eyes, but realizes that Tayor is truly the girl for him. Marisa however, is fine, the cameraman and bartender at the wedding both fall for her and she breaks both their hearts....

then she meets one of the ushers outside and decided that they will get married...it turns out that he's actualy dating her sister and Marisa realizes that it's better if she just lets everyone live their lives...she'll come back for Chrimikah. :woot:

The parents are as adorable as ever....

The show ends with Summer say "OMG, that Chanel bag is so cute" and Seth just being cute.

Oh and Ryan saves someones life....

Gilmore Girls will probably end after this year, with Rory graduating, so I won't be surprised if the O.C. takes its place in the fall. I don't see it being picked up until at least after the "regular" season.

Such a sad news! I really enjoyed this 4th season so much better than the last one.

Can't wait to watch tonight's episode though, last episode's cliffhanger was sooo unexpected.

THe OC is practically the only TV show I watch. It's so sad that it's ending. God, I hope that another station picks it up.

It realy sucks, ... the only thing we can do is to wait. Damn and i hate to wait.

Mischa Barton as Marissa Cooper dying last season.

"Ryan, don't leave me. Hold me here as I lay my perfect bone structure in your arms with my bust thrusted out and my body stretched out perfectly so everyone can see how absolutely lean I am because, dammit, I am the keds girl and I have to look good to sell those shoes even when I am dying."

I am sooo sad that the OC is ending. I wanna cry, I know its pathetic but I have loved this show since 2003, don't go!

^^ Same... :(

:( Oh my God!! I hope that! GG is absolutely the best teen drama ever, as well as the OC!

I know! I think tha Taylor and Ryan are such an adorable couple! I love them togetherrrrrrr! And after the 3rd season being kind of a dissapointment (Although I did like Johnny and Taylor's arrival), people have given up on the show.

But season 4 has been AMAZING SO FAR!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY'RE CANCELLING IT! :'(

For example, there are shows on ABC that get cancelled because they only average 6 million viewers an episode..on the CW, that's considered a hit.
That's not that good to be honest... compared to other shows, but good for them if they think it's enough. Thanks for clearing it up, jssy.

hmmm i'm seriously in the dark as to why everyone seems to think season4 is any good? i liked the first 3 seasons, but s4 is just terrible imo..... the story is even worse then normal, but then you'd have seth make up for it, but even seth isn't funny this season. and on top of that new characters like henri-michel are more annoying then ever....good thing it's gonna end.
