The Official Men's Magazine Thread

Wow @Details mag.. too many models. not loving that concept tbh

Let me get this out of the way to star this off with: this is a great time for male models now. So many campaigns and magazine covers and clients and social media are trying to capitalize on them so this is a very good sign for the male modeling industry. Second of all I do remember liking last year´s Details cover with the famous male supermodels on the scene but I was REALLY complaining over the casting and the magazine´s decision to not feature a single model of color, it was all caucasian models, full stop. The styling was however much better and I liked the editorial very much.

Now it terms of this September cover : the immediate reaction I had was to smile. I was really happy to see so so many super male models. I instantly had the flashback of that old school Meisel´s Italian Vogue anniversary cover: Vogue Italia October 1994. Haven´t we all thought of that cover when we saw this Details cover?

I do have to echo MON´s reaction too when he said:

(...) It's ironic how the photo itself looks like an org photo where the seniors pose with the freshmen.. sadly, some of the freshmen chosen don't live up to the standards of the seniors even back then when they were new to the industry.

It´s true so many of these guys are unknown to me. I obviously see lots of great male top models but 20 of them can be called top male models but 31 and to even try to call them supermodels, heu... no. We´re obviously missing great male models but that´s always the case on those big group cover shoots. Remember the stories for Vogue Japan and the anniversary and Christy Turlington, Kate Moss or Cindy Crawford not being there on that day?

I mean, besides our personal favorite models we all have to acknowledge how tremendously difficult of a task it is to reunite a few models and here in this case 31 of the most well known hardworking male top models. So it must have been a nightmare to coordinate all these models´ agendas and with their agencies and agents and schedules and all. And I´m talking from my own point of view with my magazine trying to coordinate covershoots and editorials with several agencies´ represented models. So to do a covershoot with 31 and since they are famous I mean it must have been super duper hard. So congrats anyways :)

to be fair, the wording on the cover says "31 of the world's top male models." that's different from saying "the 31 top male models" -- gives them a bit more leeway.

Although progress shown, it's crazy that out of 31 models they only add 5 models of color. Seemingly so they won't get the same backlash they received for the March 2014 cover.

Took the words right out of my mouth. While I do love the majority of the guys in this cover and I'm definitely looking forward to the full spread & other stories - it does showcase that there's a diversity issue in men's fashion as well.

Clement and Mathias. :cool2: Don't care about the rest of them.

I happen to think that this cover represents how fashion industry is right now A lot of white models with a few MOC
Okay cover for me but I do wish to see Ben Allen Baptiste Radufe Benjamin Eidem and Matthew Terry If they actually have the intention to include all fan favorites they might as well do a hundred model cover (that probably not enough:rofl:)

^Yeah it's sad, but it is sort of a representation of the current state of the fashion industry. Certainly not what it should be. I guess they wanted to go with more established men, but I'd say there are plenty of great Asian, Black, and Latino models on the come up whom they could have cast.

I was hoping they'd pick Jeremy Irvine for September considering Stonewall premieres next month, but Eddie just looks perfect in that photo!

I know it's awful, I know loads of people find him really attractive and I know he's an incredibly talented actor, but I just can't even look at Eddie with shuddering. Same with Michael Pitt.

As much as the concept bores me and it doesn’t look as good as their March 2014 cover, this gives so much joy as it still represents “men’s fashion magazine” that I love reading.

From my previous experience, coordinating ten people for a covershoot is a tough job. So I applaud them for 31 top male models.

I can not look at Addie either and I also do not find him talented or interesting at all...:cool2:

"The Danish Girl" film put him in the cover, but is a good choice after all.

He might get his second Oscar depending on his performance in The Danish Girl, nice cover but too far in advance without a set date for the movie release.

^ The movie's official release is in November. I'm guessing whoever is distributing the film is starting the Oscar campaign early, and the first thing to tackle is people's goodwill towards Eddie playing the role. I know there have been some complaints about a cis-gendered male actor portraying a transgender woman (I don't agree that it's an issue) so by featuring Eddie promoting the film in things magazines like OUT can only be a smart move.
