EXCLUSIVE: 'EY! Boy Collection' #3 Preview
'EY! Boy Collection' Vol. 1 No. 3 - Antonin Wittwer by Walter Pfeiffer
EY! Boy Collection is a hardcover magazine by Luis Venegas, known for such gorgeous titles as CANDY, the world's first transversal style magazine. For EY! Boy, one photographer captures one boy—in the third edition, which has a limited edition run of 500 copies, Swiss photographer Walter Pfeiffer shot his fellow countryman, 23-year-old Antonin Wittwer.
An excerpt from the back cover:
Walter Pfeiffer was born on March 29, 1946 in Beggingen, Switzerland: a little village full of fresh air, trees and meadows. A lover of nature and especially the mountains, Pfeiffer goes swimming everyday and likes that everything is within walking distance in his home country.
“I never decided to become a photographer,” he shares. “I felt insecure about my ability to take a sharp picture because of my shaking hands. When I was creating my first important museum show in the early 70s a friend brought all the photo equipment. He adjusted everything so I only had to push the button. A year later I bought a second hand Nikkormat and a flash, and then I tried everything on my own. Never without flash. The rest is history.” After more than forty years photographing his joyful version of the world and its beauty, Pfeiffer is an iconic presence in the history of photography and his vision remains stunningly fresh. Take a look at this issue of EY! Boy Collection and you'll see what we're talking about.
“Working with Antonin was a real pleasure,” Pfeiffer explains. “He was playful, open to new ideas and full of inspiration. Nothing was too much. There was total freedom, which is very rare nowadays. I would like to do more stuff like this with absolute freedom and fun. It reminds me of the years when I started.”
Antonin Wittwer was born on May 29, 1992 in Zurich. His father is a teacher and musician and his mother is an artist. “Switzerland is known for its high precision. I would wish there was more room for play and experimental joy.” Antonin possesses an undeniable beauty. There’s certainly a lot he’s only too happy to show but he also has a lot to say. “For me it is very important to stay open to everything. I want to try as many different things as possible. I am interested in the human experience — that's the reason I studied documentary film at The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. Since I was a child my dream has been to direct films. I would love to create projects just like Andy Warhol did at The Factory.”
On the topic of working with Walter Pfeiffer on this third edition of EY! Boy Collection he says: “The boundary between photographer and model didn't exist. We worked as a team. We always decided together which location we should use or which other models we invited. It has been very important for me to participate in the creative process. The locations are filled with my own childhood memories. The other models are all good friends of mine. I love to play with the stage and my external appearance. Working with Walter I became more confident in improvising and experimenting.”
