The Official Men's Magazine Thread

I think Arena used Lily Cole on the cover to protest the whole "she is too thin" debate that arised in the UK.

She was used on the cover of newspapers as an example of how incredibly thin a model is nowadays.

They're using her as a 'hot body' to show everyone that she is in fact NOT too skinny and that she has a perfect body or whatever.

^ I didn't know that and it's interesting that you brought that up. How long ago did the newspapers use her as the example?

^I've never seen her in newspapers, but I've seen BBC.com label her as "stick thin" or "skinny."

Yes, there are two different covers this month for readers to choose from. I think the other cover has gone to Abigail Clancy, a disgraced footballer's girlfriend (Peter Crouch) who was accused of snorting drugs and cheating on him.

I imagine Lily Cole - or Lily Cole's agent - has looked at how many Arena and GQ covers that Gisele has done (and how many millions she has accrued) and thought "maybe it's time we widened our audience too".

When I caught sight of the cover, it gave me the same sort of feeling you'd get if you saw your teacher wearing sex-gear in a desperate attempt to keep hold of her boyfriend. In other words, it's the sight of someone you respect doing something that you think is beneath her. But again, just think of Gisele's millions...

lily looks great here but it's a very strange choice for arena. she's not the sort of conventionally sexy girl i'd expect to see on the cover.

I completely agree. I feel awkward looking at this cover--it's a whole new direction for Lily, who was originally one of the pioneers of the "baby doll/alien" look.

Wow. She looks sexy and very healthy. I didn`t even notice by now. The cover looks great.

i adore this!!!i may just buy Arena for first time ever...and prolly last, hehehe

wow! I actually like this cover a lot, although I am surprised by it. She looks really good though.

This is unexpected!

despite the thread title saying lily it still didn't prevent me from thinking heather marks when i saw this photo.

From the Daily Mail:

With her childlike physique and china doll face, teenage supermodel Lily Cole was once the poster girl for size zero.

But now she says she loves her "hot" new curves - and is proving it by posing for a men's magazine.

"I thought, 'Hell, why not'," the 18-year-old tells Arena magazine. "I know I'm not a size zero... I know I have t*ts."

^I agree (I'm glad that she has confidence in her appearance); I just wouldn't expect someone like her to say something like that.

...Actually, I would have never thought Lily would have been in this magazine in the first place!

I heard about these pictures. Lily is amazing. I love her and she looks gorgeous

I've read more articles in UK newspapers praising her for her education (straight As) and sense of style when she's out on the London scene, than I've noticed ones blaming her for anorexia. Every model is asked about weight issues, so I've never felt she's been focused on to the exclusion of others. Given that's my impression of her - a smart, chic girl - seeing her on this cover is akin to seeing Chloe Sevigny doing a centrefold.
